I love Felicia Day….a lot….and it hurts me to say this, but this book was a little rough to read in parts. Some of this issue was actually really good. Once Cyd, our female lead, actually gets into the world of the roleplaying game, the story moves really well. I think all of the build up to that point was handled kind of clumsily though. The ideas weren’t bad, but where I think the comic differs from what little bit I remember of the web series is that Felicia Day isn’t giving the reader enough credit to jump right into the story. All the real life character info we get for Cyd in the comic is a little too spoon-fed and direct to be engaging, while the web series has a bit more of a jumping into the deep end kind of feel

That being said, this book still shows a lot of promise and I’m definitely going to stick with it. As Felecia Day gets used to writing in the comic format I think this book has the potential to be something special.
