No, no, no. I haven’t been reading Superman after dropping off early in the Perez run. The art has always seemed great and iconic but the stories always looked cookie-cutter. I jumped back on here hoping to be impressed.
But there are so many words. Jor-El explains everything. This is a man without a filter between an inner monlogue and the words coming out of his mouth. There is one odd thought bubble but with his extensive exposition of every action he is taking and the narration of a grown up Kal-el we are reading more than following the art. And this is a shame because the art by Kenneth Rocafort is great, realistic and alien at the same time.
But this story is all over the place. Conspiracies, weird unexplained adversaries, Superman’s mom is a somersaulting commando. I think I’ll check out issue 13 just to see if this 0 issue was a fluke but it’ll need to be pretty stellar to make up for this.
