This book is worth every penny. Great art, colors, and really intriguing story. Even the lettering kicks ass!
I’m not saying I relate to the awkward protagonist in the story, but the way Casey and company convey the him, I can’t help feel for his situation.
I also love the fact that the Catwoman analogue is trying not to associate with former super villains who might be bad influences. And oh yeah she runs a brothel.
To me is this comic not only about the superhero, but in a way, it might represent the reader.
The idea that we as children read superhero comic books, then grow older, have to adjust to society, social norms, and SEX! All the while we yearn for simpler times when we were kids and life was easier. In the main character’s case, he was a “Batman” analogue who bashed people’s heads in.
Perhaps Casey is writing about himself. If you read his essays he often eludes to how much he loves comics. How much he used to love writing superhero comics, and then he grew up and wanted more. Maybe this comic is about a guy who hasn’t started to grow up until now.
Or maybe, I’m just projecting. Probably …
