I don’t know that there is anything in comics today as pretty as these Oz books. There’s so much painstaking care in every panel, such a genuine and obvious devotion to the source material. Most comic books are great for short bouts of escapism, but books like these are so transformative I really do feel younger and better when I finish reading them. It’s nice to be able to read something so good, that isn’t at all dark. (That being said, Shaggy Man showing Dorothy his love magnet did feel like a bit of a stranger danger moment.)
