This was okay. I don't really mean that as a compliment, exactly. This was merely okay; it was just about engaging enough that unless issue two comes out on a real heavy week, I'll probably pick it up again. That ain't saying much though. The conceit is fairly straight forward. In the first half of the issue we see the last mission of the Kato and The Green Hornet. They simultaneously bring down the last two crime families in the city and after five years of fighting crime in the city, have finally made Century City safe enough for them both to retire. The second half of the issue takes place years later and shows us the Green Hornets son, Britt, and sets up in the most unsubtle way imaginable that he will take on the mantle of the Green Lantern in some future issue. Jonathan Lau's art here is pretty exceptional. The page on Kato and the Hornet driving out of their hideout would look nice framed on my wall. The problem with this issue was Smith. If all the dialogue of this book were scrubbed out, I think what you would have ended up with was a perfectly followable four star book instead of a fairly cliched and heavy handed three star book. All of the characters are fairly shallow and broad, so far, and a fair amount of the dialogue is pretty hokey. This book is readable, even enjoyable, but that about it. Otherwise, it's completely skippable.
