Evidently, James Robinson’s efforts on this comic did not fit into DC editorial’s grand plans for their universe, so Robinson felt obliged to go. It is hard to imagine, though, that what DC is planning could be anywhere near as entertaining as what Mr. Robinson was accomplishing on this title. I’m mostly a Marvel reader who was taken by Robinson’s reimagining of this corner of the DC universe. For instance, I love what he did with the character of the Green Lantern. Instead of gaining his powers from a corps of extraterrestrial space cops, this Lantern has a green costume, and is metaphorically green because he gets his powers from, and is the champion of, the earth. There are lots of rich guys in comic books, but Alan Scott is a rich guy with a twist. Scott does not run some Apple or Microsoft-like tech company in the mode of Tony Stark and Bruce Wayne. Instead, he is a media mogul, and no goody two shoes. Scott sees the potential of using his media empire to propagandize, or to “spin” in favor of his new team of heroes. Similarly, the reimagining of the Flash, Dr. Fate and Hawkgirl have interesting twists on the originals. It is intriguing that the powers of most of the superheroes in this comic have their roots in the supernatural. Robinson has planted a lot of seeds in this title that smart future writers should be able to spin into narrative gold (to mix metaphors). Robinson also has a gift for realistic dialogue. In this issue, the Flash upbraids Atom Smasher with, “My Mom’s house is ruined thanks to you, you big ass.” Atom Smasher replies, “Whatever.” Well, I guess DC’s loss will be Marvel’s gain, which appears to so often be the case nowadays.
How do I love Nicola Scott’s pencils? Let me count the ways. Actually I suspect that the elements of her work that I love are too numerous to mention, but I’ll refer to a few. Dayum, girl, you draw the heroes so sexy! Scott has one of the best eyes for anatomy in the comic industry. The action scenes are fluid. I love the panel where Flash hits one bad guy after another until he comes to a stop, pounced atop a soldier. And not everyone in the comic is pretty. Scott draws some supporting characters, like General Foster, with realistic, supporting actor looks.

I have read that DC was going to have another Earth-2 book and that Robinson was mad someone else was going to write it so he quit – I don’t see how that is not fitting into DC editorial’s “grand plans” as you said.
That sounds more like rumor then fact at this point.
If what you say is true, it appears that DC wanted to expand upon the work that Robinson was doing, and he didn’t care for the direction that they wanted to take.
