Never before has a Englishmen made me be so proud to be an American.  In this comic Paul Jenkins is able to tie several key moments of our nations history to the symbol and character of Captain America. Jenkins reflects on everything from the signing of Declaration of Independence to World War II to 9/11 and shows how all this rich history has shaped Captain America as soldier, a symbol, and an ideal.  I was particularly amused with the War of 1812 scene about the "Kentucky Rifleman", being from Kentucky myself.  Jenkins and artist Elia Bonetti end each scene with ghost like Captain America posing as the product of the scene's inspiration.  However, there is one scene where Captain America isn't posing in all his glory.  This happens to be the Civil War scene. Facing with head down, Cap stands with sad somber eyes and a look of sorrow and disappointment.  If you want to read good stand alone stories about Steve Rodgers the Theater of War one-shots are for you. However, this particular one-shot is more about the inspiration behind Captain America and is a very good read, plain and simple.
