I MENTALLY CRAPPED MY PANTS

I absolutely LOVED Brit Volume One, the colorized compilation of the smaller Brit’s #1-3. Robert Kirkman did a fantastic job creating a character that was interesting and fun, and the artwork was perfect for a senior citizen super hero kicking ass all over the place. The artwork in Volume Two is almost as good and very comprable, but the story is no longer done by Kirkman, but Bruce Brown. This book is still a ton of fun, obviiously inspired by Kirkman’s work. The problems come int he fact that the main character, Brit, is absent for half of the story and his sister is only half as interesting. Fortunately, this book provides me with my new signature line quote for the ifanboy forums: “We’re fighting the evil asian Lillipop Guild?” What starts out as a trite and overused change in Brit’s relationships to add drama to the story turns into a nice, touching ending. Most of the story has tons of action, so we get our fill of that, but we don’t get the amusing side stories, such as Brit’s conversations with in-laws and Don’s exploration of his human-android marraige like in the last volume. Unfortunately, it was these breaks in the action that endeared the characters to us, and this time around we just don’t care about them nearly as much. It’s a fun read, nothing too complex, but it just doesn’t make me smile as much the first volume.

Story: Bruce Brown – 2 (Okay)
Art: Cliff Rathburn/Andy Kuhn – 3 (Good)

Story: 2 - Average
Art: 3 - Good
