  1. Casey created America Chavez he really loved the character at the time Marvel really didn’t do anything with it- and I have read that really frustrated him.
Sure the character has taken off since Casey swore off Marvel it seems kind of obvious he just wanted to play with that character again.
I’m not sure what the confusion is as to ‘Why?’
Also if you want to feel like someone doesn’t get teen speak read a Dennis ‘Hopeless’ book.
All the words will be a thing- but it will really awkward and obvious.

    • The last time I can think of a Dennis Hopeless comic with authentic teen dialogue was X-Men: Season One which was 8 years ago. can’t think of any after that and haven’t read much by him where he writes teenagers to be fair. Mark Waid did a terrible job with teenagers during his Champions run which they have talked about here before.

    • @vacur005 Hopeless wrote Avengers Arena around that same time (2013), and that book was all teens and he did a great job with it. Who knows, maybe he was more inspired on that one?

    • I subsequently learned that, and feel like a dumbass. If that helps.

  2. Hawkeye: Freefall #6 felt like the only choice this week and the characters you didn’t know about in Hope at World’s End were characters Tom Taylor created in his Suicide Squad run. I don’t find them very interesting where Tom Taylor tried to create too many new characters at once, but Suicide Squad #6 is a good jump on point where it was very fun. I don’t want to reveal a certain character’s involvement in that series which is really interesting and unexpected. I did like everything else in Hope at World’s End other than those characters from the Suicide Squad run being in it. I’m very excited for DCeased: Dead Planet which starts on Tuesday and that is still strange to say with Tuesday comics.

  3. Have you guys read (or did you mention in the podcast) Once and Future by Gillen and Mora ? I am really enjoying it.

  4. Also how do I get to listen to the first episodes of Good Fellas Minute podcast? The google podcast app feed only goes back 10 episodes. The earliest episode I can listen to/ find is episode 136. And I’m pretty sure the link(s) is broken. It sends out an error message when I try to play episode 136…

  5. I didn’t expect to see the trade paperback prelude for Kirkman and Samnee’s Fire Power be reviewed, however I was initially perplexed as to why the simultaneously released #1 issue was absent. Both were released in stores the same day, with the #1 issue being free. I took a quick look online and realized Fire Power #1 did not release digitally last Wednesday. It looks like it won’t roll out digitally until August 5th, the same day as #2.

That said, I cannot wait for you guys to get around to it when the time comes. I read both the prelude trade and the debut issue and loved them. Can’t wait for more. This is some of Samnee’s best work. Terrific action and sequential story telling. Unparalleled expressions and facial acting. Top notch. As far as the story is concerned: it’s tons of fun. I think this is my favorite Kirkman story concept since Invincible. It captures a lot of the same magic. The trade isn’t inherently necessary to reading the first issue, however I wouldn’t miss it.

  6. Have heard great things about Ahoy Comics’ _The Wrong Earth_ and also its sequel series, _Dragonfly & Dragonflyman_, but I don’t recall hearing you guys mention it on the show. Did you not like it enough to discuss?

  7. Jordan Crane’s “Uptight”

(published through Fantagraphics or all digitally on comixology)

    it’s quarterly.

it’s a one man anthology of short or serialized stories, with an impressive range of different styles and techniques matching the wide variety of story genres.

(Issue #5 has a couple short sci-fi and twilight zone-esque tales with top of his game storytelling and design)

If you want a comic that’s not “just more of the same” or mindless check out distraction. This is it.

  8. The Aeirie, the character you didn’t know from DCeased, was created by Tom Taylor for his current, awesome Suicide Squad run. I have never read SS (not the best acronym) before Taylor, didn’t care about any of the characters. In the first issue he made my heart break for a new character that I had know for maybe 10 panels, even less word balloons.
