PREVIEW: Near Death #8

What do Ed Brubaker, Brian K. Vaughan, Robert Kirkman and I all have in common? We all love Near Death from Image Comcs.

Written by Jay Faerber with art by Simone Guglielmini, Near Death is the continuing story of a former hired killer, Markham, as he tries to write the wrongs of his murderous career by saving lives.  Each issue is a self contained story, while the larger tapestry of Markham’s story plays out over the series.  Guglielmini’s art style is reminiscent of Michael Lark at times, carrying that noir-sih style but with less darkness.  You’ve already heard me describe Near Death as reminding me of the great action TV shows of the 1980s, with a mix of crime and drama coming together to make it a blast to read.

We’ve got a preview of Near Death #8, which features a cover by Francesco Francavilla. In this issue, Markham gets caught in the middle between two warring families with a blood feud spanning three generations in Hollywood.. A modern day Hatfield and McCoys if you will.
