PREVIEW: JONAH HEX #66 with Art From Fiona Staples

We love us some Jonah Hex. And we know you do too. Why, a buckaroo by the name of Nick just called in to our most recent Pick of the Week Podcast to ask about similar episodic comics. There are a few out there, and Warren Ellis Secret Avengers run will join their ranks come August. But until then and hopefully well beyond, there's ol' Hex. The vast majority of this modern run is comprised of one-and-done issues perfect for testing the waters or padding out your haul on a light week. This aint filler though. Not nearly. Add this consistently satisfying western to your pull list and it'll end up near the top of your pile in no time.

One of the things I really and truly love about Jonah Hex is that no matter where it sits on the charts, Palmiotti and Gray are always willing to try something different and to celebrate not just the household name artists, but the most talented visual storytellers in the industry. This time we get to see the considerable finesse of Fiona Staples, an artist who left me swooning with last year's Mystery Society. She's a wonderful fit on this wintry cannibal tale.

Here's a preview from the fine people at DC Comics. Gather 'round.

Pull Jonah Hex #66 and grab it this week.

Comments

  1. LOVE this series, wish comixology would catch up the back issues…

  2. I’m in love with that cover.

  3. I started reading this series a couple issues ago and I’ve got to say that this is the best book on the stands. More people need to read this book.

  4. @RandoCalrissian  Check out the trades too.  Yes, I know DC screws the pooch by not numbering them, but with the way Hex is formatted any trade you pick up is gonna be good.

  5. When I read the tag line, my first thoughts were of the movie “Ravenous”, and OH SHIT, it looks like there might be cannibalism afoot!  Good One Paul.

That with Fiona Staples art is enough for me to pick up my first ( and long overdue) issue of Johna Hex.

  6. Well, the art’s great and people consistently say this is amazing.  Throw in my love of “Ravenous” (an vastly underrated 90’s gem) and I might be on board.

  7. @pyynk  –i might just do that…I like how each issue is kind of a standalone from what i hear so a trade or two could be good times. Like a lot of people, I’ve never been a big westerns guy..i suspect thats what holds lots of people back from this.

Love the Fionna Staples work on this issue.
