PREVIEW: Captain America #617

The hefty Captain America #616 just hit shelves today, but we've already got an advance preview of April's #617.

Bucky's still in jail and it's gonna take the concerted efforts of Steve Rogers, Ed Brubaker and artists Butch Guice, Mike Deodato, and Chris Samnee to bust him loose. We're particularly excited about the Chris Samnee bit. You'll recognize his trademark style in one of these preview pages. Great pairing of character and artist. More of this, please.

First up, a Marko Djurdjevic cover sure to raise your spirits to full mast:

"With Bucky locked away in a Russian prison, will Steve Rogers be able to shoulder the burden of a world without a Captain America? The original Sentinel of Liberty always comes prepared, but his plan of action is about to draw the wrath of a conspiracy so grand even he couldn’t have anticipated it. Steve Rogers begins a one-man, two-fisted fight to restore his partner’s honor as Ed Brubaker kicks off the staggering new act of his legendary Cap epic this April in Captain America #617!"

Look for Captain America #617 in stores on April 27th.

Comments

  1. Hmmm…Samnee you say? I might just jump back on board.

  2. Samnee is a beast.

  3. Awesome.  Can’t wait for this!

  4. This series has been languishing in mediocrity for so long I don’t know if an art change can save it.  I’d really like to see a new writer.  I think Scott Snyder could do an awesome cap story but *sigh* that’s just a dream.

  5. “wifebeater” it’s called a singlet

  6. Avatar photo Paul Montgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

@edward  Not ’round these parts, Cap’n Kangaroo!

  7. Samnee may just bring me back to this title, his art looks amazing!

  8. I love the Cap uniform, but anyone else think they should finally give the 616 Cap the Ultimate treatment on the little helmet wings and actual boots WITH laces?  Just thinking out loud.

  9. @Spider Titan You may wanna grab the last couple of issues.  Breitwesier killed it on the .1 and the 70th Anniversary issue was a blast!

  10. @MadMartigan  YOU BITE YOUR TONGUE SIR!! NEVER! Hear me? NEVER!

  11. For crying out loud, I just dropped this book (did not like 70s setting). I really like the art I’ve seen from Samnee but have yet to actually read anything he has drawn (Yep, sorry, that Thor thing might have been my fault). i may have to pick this back up.

  12. @oopsxlandmine  Never what? Change with the times? That’s why Marvel and DC is so afraid of blowing up the Universe and start fresh and clean up the continuity. Cause fans will overreact to change, be it good or bad. Not directly you, but fans in general.

  13. @MadMartigan i get that. They can change whatever they want… EXCEPT the wintips. I need them! you can have the laced boots. Totally with you on that one. But the wings are like family. You leave them alone.
