Greg Horn joins Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark

Not all news about the Broadway musical, Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark needs to be bad news.  In another case of the show's producers reaching out to comics professionals (like the recent hiring of Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa as a writer), artist Greg Horn has been tapped to provide the art for merchandise and the official program guide for the play.

Greg Horn is one of the best known photo-realistic artists around, most notably for the work he did with Marvel and ESPN on the NBA Preview issue of ESPN the Magazine.  His style is a perfect fit for the art with the play as it's based in comics and illustration, but the photo-realistic style is the right kind of art to connect with a mainstream audience.

Getting the art gig also gave Horn the opportunity to check out the show as Greg Horn commented, “They were nice enough to fly me up last month to see the show in person, and that really helped me get a grasp of the show’s scope and look.  I’ve never seen anything like it…a visual spectacle!”

After spending a week in New York last week and seeing some of the godawful art they're using on the tops of taxi cabs, this is definitely an upgrade and I look forward to seeing some great art associated with the play soon.

  1. That’s great, now more people can see his great artwork.  He’s one of my favorite cover artists (don’t know if he’s even done interiors, to be honest) and he seemed like a really cool guy when I met him at NYCC ’10.  Congrats to him.

  2. When I saw the caption of the title, I thought Ron was just being sarcastic…then, I remembered it was not Greg Horn that he hates, it’s Greg Land..lol

  3. I’m not the biggest fan of his art, but he’s a really nice guy.  There’s always a huge group around his table at cons.  Good for him…. I just hope he’s not jumping on the Titanic.

  4. no female parts in this Greg Horn pic?
