@Heroville. Good Point. I checked out some pics. Those masks are more substantial. I'd forgotten about that one. I think it makes the point though. Doesnt it look like his skin is stained w green ink?

July 15, 2010 2:16 pm I think we need to face something very basic. Eye masks tend to look silly in live action films. I think live action GL needs to lose the mask, or have some sort of more substantial construct (ala kyle rainer style) made of light be his mask. It looks like he's got ink on his face.
November 12, 2008 10:32 pm It looks like I owe Brubaker $20. I'll just hand it to him at the next comicon. ;)

Confession of a Comic Pirate

You can throw rocks at me when I'm done. I love .cbr and .cbz files of comics. I discovered them a year or two ago by chance. I'm a casual comic reader who probably only reads 5 or less a month. Once, I discovered the digital format and the viewers, I fell in love. I completely prefere them to paper. They seem to glow on the laptop screen and also seem much larger. Much as I don't feel bad about downloading TV shows to watch on my Laptop since I pay for cable, I don't feel too bad about the comics. The problem with the comics is I generally dont buy them until afterwards... only doing so when I get around to it. I really wish they could make the digital format a viable business option. I would have no problem paying for them directly, Since I read Star Wars Legacy and Knight of the old Republic, those are easy to keep up on buying regularly. But, Im confessing here, I have yet to pay for Sleeper (all issues). Honestly, Its just to easy to get what you want once you know how. I can't resist. Alex Ross's Justice looked incredible on my laptop. I studied each page more then I ever would have on paper.

I have a question, and maybe even a topic for discussion. So, first off, loved the video. It really got me wanting to check out some of the books you mentioned. It also got me to realize I am completely prejudiced against Golden and Silver Age Comics. Let me explain.

My brother in law collects and trades some of the really expensive collectors comics. I'm talking of course about books like the first appearance of Spider Man (in amazing stories, I think), or some insanely expensive Golden Age Green Lantern. Once I found out he was into comics I got to talking to him. Unfortunately, this was a mistake. I quickly realized he know very little about any of the stories in his treasure trove. Now, maybe this is an anomaly. So, he brought out some of these gems, and my first thought was ..."OMG. These Totally Suck" This is where I pin pointed my prejudice. The design and printing techniques, and even the writing, are so superior today its is literally an exponential difference in quality.

My question is: Has DC, Marvel, or anyone other house ever redone any of the classic and/or Seminole stories in the quality we are used to today?

For instance, I would love to see a series as recent as The Dark Phoenix Saga be completely redone in modern, high gloss, shiny pages (Not just the cover). What if Bendis made Clark Kent less of a tool? Is this blasphemy, I ask ? Am I crazy?

I can't help it. I'm spoiled. I can't stand to see those old news-printy dots arranged in whats supposed to pass for comic art. I would even love to see the hokey dialog be freshened up. Well, I've been needing to get that off my chest. So, Thanks.

PS. Josh. Priceless tip on Sleeper. I just finished. One of best series I've ever read.

Phoenix, AZ. Hottest day ever here was 6/22/90, 122. And, you you can always identify a Phoenician because they will always follow telling you how hot it is here with "But .... It's a dry heat!"

ps. I've noticed on some of the podcasts that some of you are Star Wars Fans, but...No love for Star Wars Legacy or Knight of the old Republic from Darkhorse. What Gives!?
