August 25, 2011 12:46 pm What? No GTO live action? I call blasphemy on this list (kidding). The final episode got a 35.7% ratings share when it ended. That's over 1/3 of the Japanese TV watching public. If you haven't seen it yet, I strongly reccomend seeking it out. Personally I would've added GTO, Nodame Cantible, and Liar Game on the list. All of them were fantastic. I've heard conflicting things about the Gantz movie and while PGSM is fun in a so-cheesy-it's-good-but-then-it-actually-gets-good-in-its-own-way series, it wouldn't have made my list. Densha Otoko is fantastic too. Second only to GTO in my list of J-Dramas.

July 9, 2011 1:59 pm It's worth noting that both Sailor Moon and the prequel manga Sailor V are being retranslated and released this September.

As for the anime, it's been in licensing hell for a LOOOOOONG time.  The Sailor Moon S boxset goes for upwards of $500 on auction sites nowadays.  But the manga being announced is a good sign that the Japanese companies are letting up a bit.
June 10, 2011 7:30 pm While Iron Man and Wolverine turned out to be huge busts, X-Men is surprisingly good.  It's one of the few anime I'm keeping up with this season.  I hope Blade takes its cues from it.
June 6, 2011 2:09 pm Man, this is killing me.  Tim Drake was my entry point into modern comics, and DC comics in general.  And Stephanie was way at the top of my favourites too.  Losing either one (or god forbid, both) of them would be very disappointing for me.
April 12, 2010 6:23 pm @brothers The only apprehension I have about buying the 3-in-1 One Piece volumes is that they are NOT of the VizBig brand. They're regular digest size and they feel kind of flimsy. But seeing as how they aren't doing OP VizBigs in lieu of the smaller ones, it seems like VizBigs are a long ways away (if ever).
April 12, 2010 12:43 pm One Piece is fantastic.  While I started reading Naruto and Bleach years ago when they were first coming out, I've since fallen off of both series.  One Piece however, manages to always keep things fresh enough to keep coming back for more.  Not to mention that the series never feels daunting to jump on.  I've jumped on and fallen off at various points with no problems.  I've kept mainly to the anime, but with the new 3-in-1 volumes being released, I may be picking those up soon.

This is where my username comes from, so clearly I love it.

I was reading it when fans were translating it online, but dropped off around volume 18 or so (when I discovered I REALLY hated reading on the computer).  I'm loving revisiting it a second time around, and eventually finishing it.  It's a pretty fantastic series.  But it is a very slow burn.

I'm always quick to liken Urasawa to Charles Dickens.  Especially how he'll intoduce a seemingly minor character and have them drop off the radar, only to appear in a much larger role later.

@DanFleming: I've only seen the first half or so of the first movie and I liked it, but I've heard not-so-nice things about the second two.  Under no circumstance should they be viewed as a replacement to reading the series though.

@Kodaiji

Yup...Totally posted that before doing any real research or watching it.  I remembered some blog talking about the song 'Solanin' and assumed it meant the movie already came out.

And yeah, the trailer has a HUGE spoiler. Be warned. I saw a preview for an instrumental track for an anime movie recently, and they decided to show screenshots of the ENTIRE film on youtube.  Not cool Japan, not cool.

...And to double post (er... double comment?), here's the trailer for the Live Action version of Solanin, that came out earlier this year in Japan.
