August 2, 2021 10:40 am I would disagree and say that the Tomasi and Gleason Superman run was great instead of just saying we have had solid Superman stories. I know you two have been in the minority with praising the Bendis run, but he has made many bad decisions. Remember that he is responsible for creating Rogol Zar who was revealed to have been responsible for destroying Krypton. Marc Andreyko doubled down on that idea in his Supergirl run. Revealing Superman’s identity was a complete waste of time and no one cares to acknowledge it now so another loss for Bendis. He said in an interview that he did it to make his mark on the character which was a terrible justification. Bendis then aged up Jon to a 17 year old paving the way to making him Superman in the modern day instead of just as a Future State idea. Phillip Kennedy Johnson was asked why he would not de-age Jon and he said he wouldn’t want to disrespect Bendis by doing that and there are plans which eventually led to Tom Taylor’s series being announced. Bendis disrespected Tomasi and Gleason by aging Jon up and I know they didn’t want it to happen. Jon going with the real Jor-El for years was a terrible idea before Jor-El was just put back on Krypton at the moment it would blow up. I have no problem with Jon becoming the new Superman honestly in the modern day. If he was allowed to age naturally, that’s better and I was never against a timeline. You could tell stories in the modern day and in the future at the same time. That would not have been that difficult. Now the Tomasi and Gleason run did establish the idea that Jon might end up being more powerful than his father. It was on the nose in the comic by Tom Taylor where I liked the issue, but didn’t love it.
July 25, 2021 6:42 pm Well that’s all untrue. It doesn’t exactly apply to Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow when it is just True Grit in space. It’s also in continuity so expect Krypto to return later. He didn’t want to kill Alfred where that was supposed to be a fake out and Scarecrow toxin showing Damian his worst fear at that point. He said there was going to be smoke like from Scarecrow there. He has said many times that editorial made the decision to make it a real death when it was never his intention to do that. It was never supposed to be real. Making Wally a murderer wasn’t his decision either where he was just told to do it, but he executed that horribly. The end of the City of Bane was forced to be rewritten to account for Alfred’s death where DiDio and another editor made him switch things. Thomas Wayne was not supposed to be the ultimate villain and was supposed to be like Vader to Bane as the Emperor. He has been pretty bitter about the end of that run. Tom King gets a lot of blame for certain things outside of his control which is bizarre. I’m not defending the majority of the second half of that Batman run, but it’s important to try to be objective. It’s like people blaming him for what happened to Dick when Dick was supposed to recover very quickly. Ric was never the plan and of course editorial getting involved caused Ben Percy to quit. Strange Adventures is great right now and not in continuity at this time. That works.
July 25, 2021 3:28 pm I went back and checked where I was wrong since it was Mike Romo who changed his opinion on Doctor Strange, not Conor who went from really liking it to saying it’s boring one year later. I know you, Conor, back then with the Ragnarok review said you all changed your opinion on Man of Steel 3 days later in the comments. I am confusing you with Mike then and do remember you saying that about those films where you liked the experience of Ragnarok more than the movie itself and liked the humor more there compared to GOTG. Now I would not be surprised if opinions change with Black Widow. It is the very definition of fine.

July 25, 2021 11:59 am Black Widow was a very average movie with subpar action scenes. The family dynamic worked, but it had unnecessary humor like many MCU movies such as making a joke out of being made infertile which is a horrific thing. Red Guardian said that Yelena didn’t need to get so clinical and it has been ignored after a moment like that was taken more seriously in Age of Ultron. The problem was the controversial dialogue with Natasha asking if Bruce was the only monster on the team. The action should have been at minimum as good as other action scenes such as even in Iron Man 2 and Captain America: Winter Soldier. The choreography wasn’t very good and the plot with the magic dust to get rid of the mind control was so sloppy. Anyone who has seen The Raid films or The Night Comes For Us like myself just becomes disappointed watching Black Widow with those action scenes. They are not good enough and it is a huge problem with relying on previs where the third act never needed the falling fortress and was ridiculous for a Black Widow movie. Natasha getting overshadowed by Yelena is a problem too. Florence Pugh was great, however, this movie should have been A LOT better.
July 25, 2021 11:51 am 808TGS, you can have less action scenes that are much better where they hit much harder at that point. Atomic Blonde isn’t very good, bud has 2 great action scenes that are memorable where one involves a staircase. They stand out more where the action is very generic and nothing is that memorable especially compared to Black Widow in other movies.
July 25, 2021 11:49 am Yeah, Conor a year or two later says the movie isn’t memorable like with Doctor Strange among many other MCU films after saying they’re really good. He is not like that with other super hero films nearly as much. 808TGS, you can be a bit less aggressive and Conor consistently changes his tune on MCU films. He doesn’t find faults at first and then his opinion changes where it swings wildly a year or two later.
July 18, 2021 12:30 pm Tim Sheridan who wrote it and producers stated The Long Halloween two parter would have been first to launch the new animated film universe and it was not finished because they were told that Matt Reeves was adapting The Long Halloween for his film. It was apparently 75% done when they were told to put it on hold. Then they were allowed to finish it when they were told Matt Reeves isn’t adapting The Long Halloween and one of the producers seemed really bitter about needing to wait for Reeves. So yes, that footnote on Wikipedia is accurate and it’s set in the same universe as Man of Tomorrow and JSA: WWII. It’s also why the two parts are releasing so close together since so much of the work was already done with all of the lines being recorded.
July 15, 2021 8:37 pm The Long Halloween is probably my favorite Batman comic and Part One was a huge disappointment. I thought the pacing was terrible and now the ending will be changed which is frustrating. It took about 40 minutes to get going and it happened when Joker appeared on screen. I thought the opening credits were cool until I realized those scenes from the comic wouldn’t be in the movie. Jensen Ackles also didn’t try to differentiate his Bruce and Batman voice. Josh Duhamel didn’t sound right as Harvey Dent too. I just wish it was better and hopefully Part Two is much better.
July 11, 2021 11:58 am There is one great Star Wars novel since Disney bought Star Wars which is Lost Stars. Anyone upset with Chewie’s death in Vector Prime while praising TFA with the awful Han death is a hypocrite. That is not lost on me where Chewie went out saving the people he loved and couldn’t be saved. People certainly had it both ways there. George Lucas said the people off limits to be killed were Luke, R2, and C-3PO so they decided on Chewie. Someone had to die in Vector Prime to establish the stakes. Lucas also made them kill off Anakin Solo instead of Jacen Solo in the New Jedi Order series. The best Star Wars novels are the Thrawn Trilogy, Darth Plageuis, Shadows of the Empire, Shatterpoint, Traitor, the novelization of ROTS, the X-Wing novels, and I, Jedi. There are plenty of great Star Wars books and people speak about Darth Plageuis with the same reverence as the Thrawn Trilogy. The Darth Bane trilogy was very good. I liked the Jedi Academy trilogy even though it was ridiculous when Gantoris and Luke could walk across lava. George Lucas said he would have made Shadows of the Empire into a movie if he could have which was promoted like a movie with that multimedia project Ron referenced. Darth Plageuis was also promoted as a canonical novel in 2012 that George Lucas approved of where he was involved along with Howard Rothman. The EU was never just fan fiction as everything was being written. Now the Republic comic series along with Legacy were fantastic. Darth Vader and the Ghost Prison and the first Crimson Empire mini-series are great too. The quality of the comics and books dropping so much truly sucks.
