June 25, 2012 12:38 pm Jimski, that response to your question really burned me up, especially since I am also a consumer first and last (and everywhere in between). But then I really wanted to know, so I did some Google searching. Since finding out about comic book printing looks to be nearly impossible, I just searched "printing cost of magazine" on Google out of curiosity. This link was illuminating: http://www.selfpublishingcommunity.com/Magazine-Publishing/2007/3/Magazine-Printing-Costs I can poke my own holes in drawing comparisons to comics in that link: mainly that it's for a large # of pages, a very small # of colors, and probably a different size and style of paper. But hey, ballpark. Also, it's a nice example of how economies of scale actually work. That also makes it harder to know who is being greedy, unless everyone says how many copies they are going to churn out.
June 21, 2012 11:46 am Among the things actually noteworthy about the panels: 1). Stan Lee is wearing a smoking jacket and an ascot. 2). Jack's wearing a green trench coat. 3). Jack calls him Stan, but he looks more like Clarke Gable than himself. Stan must have still had some pull at Marvel. 4). BRIGHT GREEN TRENCHER
June 19, 2012 3:40 pm By the 2nd picture I was smiling. By the 5th I was laughing. Well played.
June 4, 2012 2:27 pm I suspect I find my "satisfying chunk" in each episode of GoT because I've already read all books in the series. Each episode doles out an expected plot point which fills a niche. But I agree that it's no way to run a TV show. Because it's a visual medium, the TV show begs to show the big battles, even though the whole premise of the show is that these battles are already won or lost based on the behind-the-scenes games being played.
May 21, 2012 12:24 pm I definitely agree with you Jim. I've gone all digital on the things I want to read, and now if a book doesn't show up in the app, it's like it doesn't exist. I emailed the guys a few months back asking about how digital purchases affected a book's continued life, and was sad to hear them say "not much." I suspect digital readers will endure a lot of cancellations over the next few years unless they stick to the most mainstream of titles, but I'd rather have it this way than any other. Eventually their business model will catch up to our preferred methods.
April 16, 2012 3:10 pm BQ: Since the set-up implies you are all single now, or at least unmarried, and I like stupid puns, I am going to go with "Bachelor Pod"
April 6, 2012 10:00 am Didn't even notice while I was reading this week, but is this the first week of the new DC logo without the crazy banner at the top on that OMAC cover? With the similarly-colored banner gone, the new logo looks good.
April 5, 2012 10:14 am Ah, lime green, why did you go out of style as a background color? Why were you ever a background cover to begin with. Also, something about this picture makes me think Alfred is driving a bus, not a fancy car. I can hear the laugh track over this panel though, and that makes me smile.
April 4, 2012 10:56 am I still have these comics kicking around somewhere in the remnants of my old collection. This story captivated me growing up. I was a true-blue Marvel Zombie as a kid, and suddenly I saw Supes and Batman taking on these Marvel characters and winning. It was so cool. I must have reread it at least 5 times, so all those panels are like old friends. I never gave a thought to the corporate machinations that must have been required, I just thought it was something they did every few years. If they ever did this again, I'd like to see Morrison and Hickman collaborate to really bring out the wacky science-fun of the merging universes. Although that might make for a massive mind-bender of a comic.
March 24, 2012 4:38 pm I love the League politics. Also, each new design I see convinces me more that these should have been the templates for the new 52 costumes.
