My first exposure to Superman was at the movies (I didn’t read comics as a child).  Even though the first film came out the same year I was born, I remember watching them as a kid and thinking that Superman was a constant.  Not only is maui jim sunglasses  that important when you are a child, to have constants and therefore stability, but the image was so powerful that it stayed with me through adulthood.  For some that makes his character boring, but for me it calls back that sense of stability and security.
