June 2, 2013 10:44 pm I'm not sure whether or not I like this series. It feels like it's just on the verge of being awesome yet always falls flat in practice. I'll give it another issue to finally see what he does with the Fantomex triplets but I'm quickly losing interest. And now Wood's X-Men is out and already seems way better (plus it has a couple of the same lead characters).
May 31, 2013 4:04 pm Dammit, now I have that LL Cool J song in my head!
May 31, 2013 12:12 pm This is certainly nothing ground breaking. Three by-the-numbers Superman stories. But they are three solid Superman stories by great artists. And he's wearing his proper costume (I really don't see the problem with it now that I see it back in print). This is what I was looking for so it was delightful. Until further notice this is my official Superman and they New 52 is just some Elseworlds story.
May 31, 2013 12:06 pm Ah, thanks. Yea, David Lopez did New Mutants with DnA for a while. It was pretty good. He also did the DC run of Peter David's Fallen Angel back in the day. The Dodson's are always welcome for me as well. So both good choices and they fit the book.
May 31, 2013 11:12 am Well, Marvel is on a roll and got me again. I enjoyed this and see a lot of potential. As with all Marvel books, I'm interested to see who will tag in for the lead artist. Hopefully someone I like. I did initially think the all-female cast was a bit gimmicky but it's clear they simply wanted a title to showcase some of the excellent female mutant characters. They handled it well.
May 31, 2013 11:07 am The OMG thing is interesting because I didn't notice it, or at least it didn't jump out at me, until TNC pointed it out here. I basically read it as I would read it on the Internet, as an abbreviation for "oh my god" or more generally an expression of surprise. The abbreviation has become prevalent enough that it can be used like that. I think comics can get away with that - where the letters on the page might not necessarily represent what the character is actually saying. Plus it minimizes the amount of text on the page which is usually good. Of course, everyone will read it differently and I understand why you would find it grating.
May 30, 2013 10:58 pm This turned out to be a thoroughly satisfying end to a long run but as others have said, it was a messy one. I've only been reading Green Lantern recently. I'm sure the other three titles provided some insight into the setup. Both the Third Army and The First Lantern were completely pushed to the side as antagonist for people only reading the main title. But I can just take all that for granted and enjoy this conclusion for what it was. Time to step away from Green Lantern for a while. It's been a nice ride.
May 30, 2013 11:56 am I second this. That was a great little run. Paul Dini started it and Matt Sturges did the last few issues. Both did a good job with the character.
May 20, 2013 3:42 pm Frankenstein: Agent of SHADE. I thought of it because it's heavy on acronyms but is also somewhat similar in tone.
May 20, 2013 3:37 pm The younger characters being sidelined seems to be an ongoing problem for the X-Men. There are always these young mutant characters with a lot of potential and then they get killed, maimed, and/or forgotten. I suppose it's just to be expected when you have different writers and creative directions coming and going. And the established characters sell more books.
