September 1, 2012 10:10 pm Prophet is probably one of my favorite comics out there right now. Graham's King City is worth reading as well. BTW, the story makes much more sense if you read several issues at once. I've been getting the singles, but I may also get the trade that just came out.
July 6, 2012 6:44 am Yeah, I guess I haven't noticed that lack of supporting characters but I do agree with what you say. It's Bibbo Bibbowski: http://www.supermansupersite.com/bibbo.html
June 10, 2012 11:44 am Here's to being a newbie: I meant to give it 4 starts on both story and art. :)
June 10, 2012 11:30 am @JudgeJoyce: I'm comparing Watchmen and Joyce's Ulysses only in that both are very complicated stories that are interesting in terms of what they do to narrative, but not interesting apart from that (for me). And if there is a "modernist" comic storyline, I'd definitely call Watchmen that.
June 10, 2012 11:26 am I really liked this issue as well, although I'm confused as to why they're moving from the t-shirt costume to the armor and back again. Are there flashbacks? Does Morales and Morrison just like the t-shirt better? I kinda do, but I'm a sucker for Golden Age take no prisoners Superman and hope that part of the character doesn't vanish.
June 4, 2012 6:11 pm I'd say that Watchmen is probably the Ulysses of comics. I read it. I'm glad I did. I probably won't read it again. It's almost a rite of passage. You read Ulysses in grad school, but unless you are a Joyce scholar or participate in Bloomsday every year, you probably don't get back to it. Watchmen, for me, is similar. I hope people enjoy Before Watchmen, but I probably won't get it.
