It’s hard for a book to recite its own tagline without sounding like a pretentious adolescent. I love the X-Men…

Okay . . . .  I think I’m done.  I’m not sure why this one tipped it for me, honestly. …

August 27, 2008 6:55 pm I can't speak rationally on this -- I'm only and entirely buying it because I like Laura Kinney.  I can read this as long as I pretend it is AU, and has no real relation on the other x-books.  That said, I criticized this over in the comments to X-Men Legacy.

I liked this  -- let me say up front, I LIKED this.  But.   I get the feeling Carey, Fraction, and Yost are not being allowed to talk to each other, or aren't talking to each other, or *something*.  I love Uncanny, I like Legacy, I like X-Force.  But.

If Emma is so much in Scott's mind that she is ALWAYS watching for signs of manipulation and control, as Carey states, then how is Scott hiding the X-Force team?  How do the X-Men reconcile Warren's joining the team via X-Force, and the stuff he did there?  What's the excuse for him being around, how are they hiding that?  How is WARREN hiding from Emma what he and the X-Force team did?  And let's not even drag in the latest issue of Cable.

The telepathy is reading the script, dangit.  It's not consistent.  And, I *know* that's too much to ask for.  I'm not even truly miffed about it.  But I *will* be miffed if they start using each other's plot points without establishing some consistency.

August 27, 2008 6:48 pm This review is really spot-on.  I never, ever thought I would like this -- just another Marvel Money Maker, I thought.  But I was wrong, and it's huge fun.

This issue provided a great jumping-in place for new readers, readers who may have heard about Thunderbolts but didn't want to come into the middle.  Everyone's powers, personalities, motives, and past were clearly explained.  Also, this is a Secret Invasion tie-in -- and, whether you like crossovers or not, this issue makes it easy for anyone picking up the title as a crossover to get the team, get the gist, and maybe keep reading after Secret Invasion ends.  I thought it was an unexpectedly savvy move.

I like Greg Land's art, and he draws a great Beast.  :D  I did find the switching back and forth between the two styles to be confusing, but I could pick my way through.  Fraction's intro -- and don't try to tell me that first page is not 100% Fraction -- is a sort of giddy delirious sweeping delight.  It set up the new order in a clear way.  Things are going to be different, they will be cosmic and human both, and they will start fresh.  It was an homage to old school and a nice intro to the new situation.

I just wish it had come out before AXM #25.
