January 23, 2012 4:13 pm I've really been enjoying the book, and it's been great to see Maleev get back to his old standard of excellence. Still, I feel as though I need to trim the ol' pull list at the moment, so there's an upside. I think most people would acknowledge that it's only with an A-list team like this that Moon Knight seems to be able to sustain his own book these days. I don't think it's a bad thing to put him back in the box until the next great creator comes up with a great idea worth publishing.
January 23, 2012 3:09 pm It's not what I'd consider a banner week, but American Vampire, Flash, Remender on Secret Avengers and Hickman (three times over) is enough to keep my interest. Justice League has also really grown on me after the first couple of issues left me cold. BQ: Well in my corner of the Uk, at least, it's been a disappointing winter. It's a little chilly, but nothing like it should be, which I think is a shame. I like a good cold to the bone winter, the kind that makes you glad to either bundle up or hide under a blanket at home. This year it's just kind of bleeurgh...grey, dismal and drizzly. Yes, we Brits really can talk about the weather all day long.
January 17, 2012 5:49 am Some really good books this week...mainly because Batman is out, but also DD, Ult Spidey, Thunder Agents, X-Force and a good few others...some real quality. BQ: Didn't see it, but was surprised by the nomination listings. In my head it felt like a really good year for movies, yet there wasn't loads that excited me in the nominations. Still, nice to see the love for The Descendants and Tintin...but seriously no mention of Tinker Tailor?
January 12, 2012 7:52 am Is that a variant cover? I almost never go hunting for variants but I think I'd be tempted to hunt that little beauty down.
January 9, 2012 4:47 pm Heck of a week and yet I'm most excited for Amazing Spider-Man, the 1st part of the DD crossover. Also hot for all the Jason Aaaron-ness, Secret Avengers, Luther Strode and the finale of 1959. And I'm wondering if I can keep my interest in the Bendis Avengers until he finishes his run...the Dark Avengers thing feels kinda done. BQ: God, y'know I don't think I can even remember
January 9, 2012 11:56 am Well, since I find that each new issue of Batman is over far too soon I am more than happy to drop the extra dollar on this sweet addition...especially with art like that.
January 3, 2012 3:02 pm Was expecting a bit of a post Christmas lull, but that's a good solid week. Animal Man, Swamp Thing, Action, Fatale, a plethora of the new X-books, Rachel Rising...sweet. Still wondering WTF with regards to the whole Avengers Annual thing, I mean when did part 1 come out? Now if only Dynamite could get around to putting out that (now kinda late) Howard Chaykin art book, 2012 would be off to a fantastic start. BQ: I guess to diet, get fitter and drink less....all of which I am probably failing at already...but there's still so much food and drink to get through!
January 2, 2012 3:22 pm Oh man, there's a tough decision... Vying for attention would definitely be Daredevil # 1 (the perfect restart), American Vampire Survival of the Fittest # 1 (the perfect intro to a perfect series) and Wolverine Debt of Death (a perfect one-shot). In the end I'd have to flip between two. Detective Comics # 880 (My Dark Architect) because it's a perfectly constructed thriller with some lovely misdirection and cemented James Jr as that rarest of things: a new Batman villain for the ages. Superb cliffhanger too. My more leftfield choice would be Punisher # 5, a beautiful Thanksgiving-set story which is all about character. I'm in two minds still about the art still, although I certainly don't hate it, but it serves as a reminder of both Rucka's skills and of those golden Gotham Central days.
January 2, 2012 6:36 am Nice review, and very reflective of my own feelings about the resolution. It must have been so tempting to have Matty paroled in this five years later epilogue yet Wood, as always, sticks to his guns. I like to think that the concept of this civil war is just the right side of "could never happen" (and I really don't think things could ever go that far), but everything that happens as a result of that fiction always felt real...including the evolution of Matty himself. I saw some negative reflection elsewhere on another site about this ending and I have to say that saddened me as I'd have to admit it was so apt that it gave me goosebumps!
December 27, 2011 2:25 pm Plenty to be excited for as the year goes out. Cap by Davis (and finally the conclusion to that initial story which seems to have swung from a great start to kind of boring me.) Then the final DMZ, Flash, the new 50s American Vampire arc and more Hickman goodness. Nice stuff. BQ: I shall be at work, on duty policing the streets from 2200. Which means I will be speeding from drunken street brawl to drunken domestic argument, passing through out of control drunken house parties in between. Yay!
