January 24, 2013 7:41 pm Hardwick vs Rob Johnson and Guy who has to find the perfect copy on Wednesday and I have to hurry to get my books on my lunch hour. Its a handicap match, but you figure out who has the handicap.
January 24, 2013 7:30 pm Guys don't you realize that the whole Ron leaving for image is a smokescreen. It's not JJ who's directing Star Wars it's Ron!!!! All the stormtrooper are going to have sideburns! Seriously if this movie doesn't bring Ron back for a special edition podcast I don't know what will.
January 21, 2013 1:48 am God this is so rough. All my favorite podcasting hommies have gone through so much changes. Diggnation is gone, Totally Rad Show is gone, and now Ron is moving on. I have been pretty bummed all weekend although I am happy for Ron. My friends have been asking me what is wrong and I just can only give me them a blank look. These guys better hold it together on the next podcast or we are going to have a really bad case of Niagara Falls on the live show. Better get a supply of kleenex and bourbon for the show.
January 18, 2013 4:17 pm Oh and Ron if there is one thing you can do at Image is make sure you comic block Josh's pitches, just kidding! I wish all you guys the best success for the future, but I hope you are going to be on this Sunday's POW and shut down Josh when he starts trying to pitch you.
January 18, 2013 4:14 pm Congrats Ron, on maneuvering your eventual takeover of Image. Now I hope there was a caveat in your agreement that when there is a email or call that requires a Long Island response that they drag you kicking and screaming over to the podcast. I do have a pro and con list of Ron's absence on the podcast: Con 1. No more hilarious verbal fumbles on usernames 2. Some really good music for the podcast (my assumption its yours) which have led me to go and purchase the tracks on itunes. 3. The hype machine for some comics is going to change gears Pro 1. I can't think of anything Good luck and keep Bobby Hollywood in check
December 24, 2012 1:27 am @deepspacesamurai Uh because we are comic book fans and with the internet we don't have anything better to do.
December 22, 2012 12:31 am Wow @deepspacesamurai I think you need to take a step back. There has been some problems at DC recently. For example Perez leaving the Superman book. His remarks highlighted that there are some editorial problems. Perez is a solid pro and doesn't have a bad reputation about being a diva. Much less Gail Simone has a similar problem. For DC to take a u turn and put her back on the book shows that there were some upper level disagreement with the move. You are right that editors have a tough job and that some can be good and bad. I think you should take a look at both the editors and artists reputation before you make a opinion.
October 30, 2012 7:03 pm I have to agree that Lucas made the right decision in going with Disney to become the caretaker of his creative legacy. Although there is an argument that it is in a way disheartening to see entertainment becoming even more of a monolithic corporate entity. The fact is that Disney fits as a entity that can protect Lucasfilm from becoming diluted or becoming more overly exploited than it already is. I actually hope that Disney allows the people who will be making the next Star Wars films to blow up the expanded universe and start fresh. I found that the expanded universe was almost as convoluted as DC multiple crises. I would encourage the holy nerd 3 (Ron, Conor, and Josh) to do a Talksplode and discuss the merger of Disney and Lucasfilm. I also hope that at some point they will do the Invasion gag with some type of Disney character voice as the head Gungan. Because we all know that this needs to happen.
September 21, 2012 8:48 pm Paul just came out of seeing Dredd and I really did enjoy it. I was kinda of hoping for a, "I knew you'd say that", but the "I am the law" was delivered exceptionally well. I didn't really care for the 3D but I haven't been impressed by any of the 3D versions of films anyway. The Hot Shot scene was incredibly interesting in a, eww I really didn't need to see that but it was pretty cool.
June 25, 2012 1:28 pm Jim I totally understand your sentiment about the twitter exchange and your feelings about corporate vs independent comics. I've listened to CB's prior interviews on iFanboy and Word Balloon and I thought he was very thoughtful and did a good job about how Marvel selects artists and writers. I'm guessing that his and Bendis' reluctance to give a solid answer might be that they are unable to talk specifics for business reasons which I don't think is a good reason to respond to your question in the way that they did. On the other part of your article I think that people have a distant understanding about part of the publishing business and history. I can't imagine that anyone thought at the time that comics like Avengers or Superman were created by the creators and the management that these ideas were going to make anyone millions or even billions of dollars over the ideas lifetimes. At the time of creation these books were selling at 15 cents a issue or something like that and even with a readership that is ten times what is now. You can't imagine anyone smoking fat cigars especially since for every iconic book there were many comics that had failed. So I can see at that point the contracts and defined ownership would not be taken very seriously by either creators or publishers. The one lesson that can be taken from this is that new ideas can be worth something and that creators should take the business side seriously and learn how to balance these issues whether doing independent publishing or working with the big 2.
