Name: Marc Bowker
Bio: I started reading comic books with Marvel's Secret Wars #1 when I was 10 years old and now I own my own comic book store, Alter Ego Comics in Lima, Ohio. I'm more of a reader than a collector and I think that comic books as a whole are better now than they've been in years.

I'm anxiously awaiting my copy of the Walt Simonson Artists Edition next week, as well as the complete Echo in August.
I've been reading comics for 30 years, and selling them as a retailer for 8, but I've never been to SDCC. Next year, that changes :)
Brave and the Bold has been my favorite DC book since JMS took over. I dig Jesus Saiz's artwork, but I'm looking forward to Cliff Chiang's work on #33. Picked up his newest sketchbook at C2E2 - nice stuff!

I read an advance copy of this two weeks ago and was impressed enough to increase my order for my store. I hadn't read any Magdalena prior to that, but it should appeal to fans of the Da Vinci Code and Hellboy.

My store, Alter Ego Comics in Ohio, is celebrating 5 years in business in May. it was an uphill battle in the beginning, (there were two other stores selling comics in my area when I opened - they both closed within 6 months of my store opening), and it's always tough running a small business, but I wouldn't have it any other way. I love coming to work every day, and I get to help people discover (or rediscover) the joy of comics!
There is definitely a right way and a wrong way to open a store. The CBIA is a great resource (http://www.thecbia.com/index2.html). And, if you're going to C2E2 next weekend, plan on attending the "So You Wanna Be a Retailer" panel on Saturday at 12:30pm. I'm on the panel for that one, so come by and introduce yourself.
Great article, Tom. It was refreshing to hear someone talking about actual comic books instead of "digital comics" and the iPad.
I also want to echo what daccampo said about the "hardwired" paragraph. Great stuff!
