June 24, 2013 5:20 pm @USPUNX ~ I really liked this individual issue, but as a series, I really agree with you on the points made both in your review & the comment here afterward. And yeah, now that you point out the issue with Gianfelice's Bélit, I can see that too. I liked her character depiction here more than other recent arcs, but I'll agree some of the panels bordered on gratuitous, & while I think you actual need some of that for this given character, it may have been a bit too heavy-handed in spots. Great review, & I'm really glad for the dialogues we get here on iFanboy for some not-so-mainstream titles. Definitely makes the reading experience more enjoyable.
June 19, 2013 11:00 pm That was my same thought when this week rolled around — but after reading it... this issue really, really delivered for me. It may be my favorite since the first two arcs. (And I wasn't digging last issue too much.)
June 18, 2013 3:30 pm I would offer up "Wild Blue Yonder" #1 as well. Looks like really cool art, writing – & sky pirates. Lengthy preview here: http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=preview&id=16636 Took a chance on "Six-Gun Gorilla" #1 last week & really loved it; hoping this one will do the same. (I mean, they got the plane from TaleSpin...!)
June 17, 2013 10:39 pm For anyone who didn't catch it, they put up a pretty lengthy preview a few weeks ago: http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=preview&id=16636 — & it looks awesome! As excited for this as I was for "Six-Gun Gorilla #1" last week.
June 13, 2013 10:29 am Cool, let me know what you thought of it after reading. Curious to see if this was custom-tailored to my tastes or just objectively good...
June 12, 2013 10:10 pm @theWAC1 – Oh, & my bad. 6-issue mini.
June 12, 2013 10:09 pm @theWAC1 – My follow-up: Damn the fluttering of your emptying wallet walls & pick this bad boy up! I know I was pretty hyped for this even before reading it – which probably should have ruined it for me – except that everything in the book delivered perfectly for my tastes. It's not too light or heavy; it's written smart as hell; the art is kinetic & well-suited to the story. I wrote a more in-depth review up top... but yeah, I recommend this over any #1 issue I've read this year so far, easily & absolutely.
June 12, 2013 11:09 am @theWAC1 – Okay, will do. Hopefully getting it tonight. (And it's a 5-issue mini.)
June 10, 2013 2:32 pm Man, I am so stoked for this! Gorillas alone won't make me pick up a book, but Stokely's art is where it's at! And Spurrier's a writer I've been wanting to read outside the superhero genre – so yeah, get here already Wednesday!
June 7, 2013 9:52 am The placement of the masthead on the "Apes" book is strange. There's clear negative space just above it & "Cataclysm" obscures the right background character's eyes completely. Is there a symbolism here that's related in the story (sorry, not reading it)? As a designer, it looks like an off-kilter decision (or printing mistake?), but I actually really like it. Makes the composition feel tighter & leads the eye directly from the title to the main woman figure.
