July 18, 2013 9:36 am I'm guessing it's connected to that few months of delayed issues. This issue comes out 3 weeks after #36, right? Maybe they're trying to catch back up. Graham's talked openly about having some depression-type issues lately, but that they seem to be resolved. Maybe that figured in... Plus "Walrus" just came out (delayed a little too, but AWESOME!) & seems like it must've been a lot of work. Simon Roy has done a solo issue of "Prophet" before, as has Graham. Is it a decent story/execution, despite the format change? (Have it but haven't read it yet.)
July 17, 2013 12:06 pm Got my pre-order copy from Amazon about a week ago. This book is pretty much perfect. Really interesting paper stock & selective coloring choices. It feels like a sketchbook, but also has a good amount of little short stories & has a general narrative quality to it. Nothing earth-shattering, but all of the little pieces build a tapestry of this dude's work & thought process & interests. If you dig Graham's other work, this is a pretty wonderful insight into his brain & a bit of an abstract travelogue, of sorts. Highly, highly recommended.
July 9, 2013 12:22 pm Really looking forward to reading Jason's "Lost Cat." All of his stuff is usually very good (or excellent, in the case of "Low Moon" & "West Bank Gang"), & from Paul's description, I'm especially interested to see how "longer & more novelistic" plays out. And let us not forget... NEW PAUL POPE THIS WEEK!!! ... in the form of the "Death of Haggard West One-Shot."
July 5, 2013 12:34 pm As a creator and as a fan, this — along with the space between the panels & everything that entails/implies — is why I love comics as a grown-up human being. Great sentiment & article, Gabe.
July 5, 2013 10:12 am Man, I just realized, Hughes is doing for the Fairest covers what had been missing since Jean left the Fables cover duties. If this title goes long enough, I'd love to see a covers book for it in much the same fashion. And great call out on that Abe Sapien cover. I hadn't seen those motifs, but once pointed out – how iconic, yet fresh. (While your at it, give me an art book of Del Mundo's Legacy covers someday please.)
July 1, 2013 9:54 am I picked up the first trade from the library, & was absolutely blown away. Then checked WAC's & others' comments here to see if the quality seemed to hold up. Bought issues #21-32 immediately on the high praise here & shotgunned them – which was amazing, but almost made my head explode. And yeah, this has SO easily been POTW for me each time it's come out since. Thank you to the classy cats here who talked it up so much. This may very well be my favorite comic of the past decade; it's so damn smart, intense, heartfelt & creative – every single time. Also led me to Multiple Warheads, King City... and yeah, I even perused a few of Graham's *ahem* adult-comic-endeavors. Dude has almost sinlge-handedly revived for me what comics can (& should) be. ... So again, thanks guys. (Check out his podcast interviews too. They're all pretty great.)
June 26, 2013 10:38 am Okay cool. Thanks guys. From some of the plot discussions, it sounded like it had to be limited (it touches on the different wars chronologically, right?), but yeah... now to wait for the collected & shore up my wallet walls...
June 26, 2013 12:08 am I've had this series on my "want" list for a long time now (due to the love the iFanboys have shown it), but haven't picked it up yet. Just out of curiosity, does it sound like the series was canceled or originally planned as a mini-series? I'll be eager to pick up a HC either way, but just wondering what kind of ending this is, forced or planned?
June 24, 2013 5:21 pm Haha, thanks. And yours made me look at it a little more critically...
