December 21, 2011 7:47 pm I'm standing over here in my very lonely corner, with an Art Adams banner in one hand, and a Longshot flag in the other, waving both emphatically. It's nice to see the creator and the character both continuing to get a little love. :-D
December 19, 2011 2:18 pm oops, that was meant to be in comment to Jim and Chris' replies to manwithoutbeer's post.
December 19, 2011 2:17 pm @Jim and Chris - Too true. I say keep calling the haters out so maybe, just maybe, a few of them will begin to realize the error of their ways and clean their act up. Maybe then they'll grow up (because let's be honest, most of them have a great deal of growing yet to do), raise little internetlings who have been taught the finer points of nettiquette, and perhaps one day the internet will be less of a constant bar-fight and a little more of a intellectual haven. One can dream.
December 19, 2011 1:32 pm Precisely, and well said. What Jim is on about isn't the right to express a dislike for something, even vehemently, what he's talking about is the sort of pure bile some people spit in all directions that does nothing to further the conversation, which is ultimately what message boards are designed for. Yes, you are entitled to your negative opinion, but (and you can call this sanctimonious if you want, but it will not make it wrong) you should not *want* your words to be purely hateful or hurtful to others. You should *strive* to build up those around you in this or any community you belong to, not claw them down into the poisoned pit you are wallowing in. That is the height of selfishness. As stated above, a social contract dictates a degree of altruism and a sense of community, otherwise that society crumbles. Anyone who is offended by Jim's expression of a desire for "criticism with kindness", or my calling them out on that very offended-ness, finds themselves on indefensible ground. In my opinion.
November 10, 2011 10:05 pm tritto? I bow at the altar of Art Adams. His mix of cartoon and environmental realism has been an artistic inspiration to me since the mid-to-late 80's, and in case anyone was wondering, he is quite an affable guy in person. More on-topic, this piece with Venom front-and-center melted my eyeballs. ~S!
November 10, 2011 9:50 pm I wonder if the iFanboys might take a moment to consider a suggestion based on some people's aversion to being smacked in the face by movie spoiler content on this site: What if you added an "Upcoming Movies" section where you could organize concept art, production stills, cast and creator interviews, and the like? I can't speak for anyone else, but I know that for me, it would *completely* eliminate any desire to visit those other sites I alluded to before. If I think this, others must be thinking it too, so I can't help but believe it would grow your readership by some margin. Keep in mind that I am not a programmer by any stretch of the imagination, but in my head this seems like a pragmatic solution, albeit to a minor issue. ~S!
November 10, 2011 11:09 am Hm. I'm not speaking for the original commenter, but I couldn't care less about leaked images for this movie in particular, and I'm not sensitive to spoilers in general <---though I am trying somewhat to block out Avengers stuff, for funzies). That was SO not the point of my post. Also, deriding someone for their thoughtful opinion or friendly suggestion is something that runs rampant on those other sites, but not here. It's unbecoming of the iFanbase, which is the best comics-related community I know of. Let's keep it so.
November 10, 2011 3:20 am I agree here, and on top of that, I'd rather iFanboy NOT become the TMZ of comics journalism like another few sites I frequent *he says pointing emphatically at the bright red banner of SHH*. I go there for that when the urge hits me, but I come here for something different, something more...pure in it's appreciation of the medium? It's possible that I am not expressing my opinion succinctly, but whatever you take from this, I hope you don't think I'm leveling any specific attack on anyone who contributes to this site. You ladies and gentlemen are IMO the best in the business, and I just want you to stay that way. Best Regards! ~S!
September 29, 2011 4:16 am I know I am picking some very nerdy nits here, but what the Hel has happened to Marvel's graphic design department in the past few years?! Their logos, ad copy, and overall aesthetic is just atrocious. Sure, none of that speaks to the quality of the content in the slightest, but for people like myself who can't help but notice "the presentation", it is viscerally off-putting. Come on, you House of Ideas...draw me in like you used to!
April 9, 2011 8:48 pm Cloak and Dagger is one of those concepts/properties that you just know *could* have mass market appeal if someone could only capture what made the original mini and some parts of their first ongoing great. I have very high hopes for this one. Now to get seriously tangential, why has no one ever thought of pairing C&D with the Shroud? Overlap, redundancy, bah! There is some crazy story potential there. *nod*
