July 12, 2013 3:08 pm I tend to prefer "realism" (Steve Dillion, Dave Gibbons, Darrick Robertson, Chris Weston, Brian Bolland, etc.) to either photo-realism or "cartoony" styles. This doesn't just refer to the rendering but the overall approach (compositions, layout, lighting, etc.). I think it's fun whenvever you see superhero characters rendered in a grounded, straightforward manner in mundane environments. It highlights the abusrdity of their appearance/existence.

July 11, 2013 11:50 am Well, Geoff Johns spoiled the end of "Trinity War" in a YouTube video (SPOILER, SPOILER, SPOILER: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNqDibHj1ac) and honestly since they have to start promoting these things months in advance, you can kind of guess who lives and who dies based on the cover artwork (oh hey look it's Nightcrawler!). Now, knowing a big twist can ruin a surprise, but it can only ruin a story if it's not that good in the first place. However, these aren't stories. They're "events," kind of like the Super Bowl or World Series. They only matter in a sense of who lives, who dies, who gets a limb cut off, who loses their powers, who gets new powers, and what the new status quo is at the end. It only matters to you if it affects one of YOUR favorite characters, much in the same way a football or baseball game only matters if your team is playing. Compare that to Mark Waid's "Daredevil." Foggy Nelson has cancer. That's a story. He's a beloved character and the ultimate "best friend" in the Marvel Universe, it's coming at a time when Matt Murdock is struggling to keep it together, and even beyond all of that, it's something probably every reader has some experience with, unfortunately. Even if you told me how it turns out, I still would read it because of the creators and characters involved.

June 14, 2013 8:03 am I agree with XKettNerdX. "Man of Steel" was both surprisingly convoluted yet it felt like the movie barely covered any real ground, it was filled to the brim with one-dimensional supporting characters (it seemed like Commander Law and Order almost got as much screen-time as Clark) that really have no reason to exist, Zod was one-note and despite Michael Shannon's histrionics he never even came close to the steely menace of Terrance Stamp, and the whole design and execution was was so reliant on CGI as opposed to any kind of built tension or pacing (compare any of the fights or chases in this to the Joker/Harvey Dent/Batpod chase in "Dark Knight") that there was no real sense of wonder and by the end it felt lazy, especially by the end which basically felt like the climax to "The Avengers" only robbed of wit, humor, and fun.
