August 2, 2011 2:04 pm So, I'm really down for this now and will for sure step up to buy to make sure that this move is met with not just vocal but financial support.  The only nitpicky thing that bugs me (and it's really nitpicky) is that this is the second new mixed-race character that's half-black, half-hispanic (the first being Victor Alvarez aka Power Man who is Afro-Dominican). It's almost like the diversity lacks diversity. As long as they aren't characterized exactly the same (which I have faith that they won't be) I'll be pleased. That said, lets keep this going see some half-Samoan, half-Indian folks too.
July 27, 2011 1:48 pm I think self identifying geeks spend a lot of time and energy trying to defend our exclusivity because one of the traditional disadvantages of becoming a geek is lower social standing compared to the "normals" (negative media perceptions/reduced desirablity in social or romantic situations).

When our failings, such as being exclusive and hard to please, are called out by people that can be argued to be the opposite of the geek stereotype (in this case popular attractive women) there's a defensive backlash that happens. What gets lost in these conversations is that while "geek girls" have every right to like what they like and have an equal voice, geeks don't feel like they have an equal voice in the general society, especially when compared to popular attractive women.

It's human nature to reject a deal you see as unfair, even if the results of such a deal are positive. Old Guard Geeks don't think "geek girls" have paid their dues. The geek culture was intially built as a support group for those who felt rejected for their love of things on the fringe for those who are already embraced by general culture to get that support without the struggle is seen as unearned.

Personally, I'd perfer geek culture embrace all comers and become a welcoming and unstoppable social force but seeing as geeks at the end of day are just people (with all the good and bad that entails) I think we may expect too much too soon. Both sides need to make concessions until the sides fade into one united front.
June 17, 2011 3:00 pm It's definately not as bad as the reviews have made it out to be but also not the home run that DC needed. They're already outnumbered 3 to 1 in movies this year and made a good but not great movie. I enjoyed it more than Thor but I wanted this to be a knockout. I can see this being a big hit with the younger crowd though. It's a DC movie which doesn't have a dude that's missing half his face.
June 3, 2011 10:25 am I thought this was twice as enjoyable as Thor. I liked the period piece back drop, the dynamic between Charles and Erik was captivating, and I felt like we acutally got several enjoyable action scenes as opposed the two or so we've gotten in other big films (Magneto as Jason Bourne, the CIA base, the assault on the boat, training, and the Cuba Clash). Yes I missed Darwin (I was really hoping for a post credits sequence with him) and January Jones didn't wow me (but that may have more to do with Emma Frost) but on the whole I think this is the new bar for the summer.
May 5, 2011 10:35 am As hard as it is to hear I gotta respect Adam and Allison's decision. As much as fan's like the ones writing here genuinely respect the artist, fandom as a whole tends to be demanding and entitled. How much can someone who's exhausted from the marathons that are cons take?

April 4, 2011 1:18 pm Marcus "Matchstick" Grayson grew up on the wrong side of the tracks, taking on low level hustling jobs to support his single mother. After a job with his renegade best friend/cousin ends up landing him in jail, fomer marine Marcus is convinced by a scar faced suit from the government to volunter for a process that will splice alien DNA with his own in order to better provide for his family... and his community. After the risky procedure proves successful, guidance counciler Marcus Grayson begins patroling the streets on his alien tech fueled skateboard as the non-electricity powered "Invicibolt". He can also talk to birds.
March 24, 2011 12:18 pm Bump down New Frontier and move up Green Lantern and you've got my list.
March 22, 2011 12:37 pm Last year's C2E2 was my first con and I really enjoyed how it was a smaller con but understood that it couldn't sustain itself if it carried on that way. I was apprehensive this year but I had a bunch of fun and the creators I talked to seemed to think it was a vast improvement.

The only thing that was rough this year was not making the sketch list for Mahmud Asrar and Ivan Reis because of the larger crowed. That said Jeremy Dale (and his wife Kelly), Ryan Stegman, and Joe Prado did some bang up stuff. I also have to second that Janet Lee is the nicest, coolest woman ever (I helped her carry some of those wood prints to her signing. They were gorgeous). I could go on and on about how cool each of the creators were (Fred van Lante drew a sketch in my herc hardcover and I talked about beer with Don Kramer and Scott Snyder) but it's already getting tl;dr.

I think it struck a great chord between being huge and attractive to companies and having a really laid back and accesible vibe for fans. I'm in for next year for sure.
March 22, 2011 12:16 pm Well damn didn't see this bit of news. I was at the convention and was a few feet away from the guy but didn't bring any stuff for him to sign. His lines were insane (so much so that I missed out on getting a Skottie Young signature/sketch). That said I'm sure everything will work out with the TV shows since the source material is so fantastic!
