November 9, 2011 1:10 am 5. Iron Man-Armored Adventures; seeing teenage versions of Tony, Rhodey, Pepper and the Mandarin is a real kick. Plus, they make use of an underrated rogue's gallery: Blizzard, Unicorn, Living Laser, Crimson Dynamo. 4. Young Justice; The characterization is fantastic, and the soap opera aspect doesn't overshadow the action (often). The dynamic between the young'uns and the Justice League is extremely tense, and big-time villains in the mix adds to the tension. 3. Teen Titans; This one is my kids' fave, too. Had me hooked from the moment I realized they were going to do "The Judas Contract" in it's entirety. Only anime or anime-influence I can stand. 2. Spectacular Spider-Man; This is THE best version of animated Spidey, combines the Ultimate teenage angst with the storylines of the Wein/JRJR/Andru '70s. 1. Avengers: EMH; Other than the slightly irritating RDJ imitation, this is pretty much perfect. Already been to Asgard and fought Kang, next I want Korvac, Yellowjacket, Vision, & the Kree-Skrull war. Honorable Mention: Did anyone notice that Super-Hero Squad went all cosmic Starlin on us last season? Seriously, last episode I saw had Adam Warlock & Thanos sleeping in bunk beds inside the Soul Gem. This show is seriously weird & funny in a good way.
July 22, 2011 1:13 am What Hickman is doing with Fury in Secret Warriors and S.H.I.E.L.D. is genius, weaving together one giant mythology out of all the Steranko-era plotlines and touching almost everything in Marvel continuity since. Bendis may have started scripting SW, but I think Hickman writes Fury better than anyone now.

Here's how I do it: All I follow are my favorite writers, and everything else be damned. I don't like Fraction or Johns (though I will be giving the JLA reboot a try), so I'm not reading either event. I am still reading Avengers, T-Bolts, Avengers Academy, so I'm getting the gist of FI, only through the eyes of the writers I respect and like. (only exception: Iron Man 2.0-who thought throwing Rhodey in with the Seven Immortal Weapons was a good fit? Great art, though.)

Same with Flashpoint-I'm reading Lois Lane & WW because of Abnett and Lanning, Frankenstein because of Lemire, and if I miss anything, I'll catch it in trade.

Work for anyone else?

June 16, 2011 12:37 am Anybody catch the Orc Stain joke in the corner of the panel? Really a T-Shirt? Or another Kirkman comment on the Big 2?
June 2, 2011 12:19 am Humans with the mutant x-gene have been around close to 5000 years, unless the origin of Apocalypse has been ret-conned and I didn't know about it. En Saban Nur was 1st dynasty Egyptian.
May 13, 2011 2:24 am Any Batman essentials list without Denny O'Neil and Neal Adams is incomplete. I suggest Batman: Tales Of The Demon, an omnibus that collects all of the Ra's Al Ghul stories from the early '70s to replace Gotham Central.
March 10, 2011 12:29 am Love Booster Gold, love Doom Patrol, love all things Keith Giffen. As a completely nostalgia-laden fanboy, I put forth two new(old) possibilities for Giffen's future travels once the ax falls:

1)Whatever ongoing Generation Lost is leading up to.(Return of the JLI?)

2)A return to glory with Paul Levitz on LOSH (please, please, please)
February 15, 2011 8:29 pm Really going to miss Doom Patrol. This Giffen iteration did for DP what Brightest Day has done for the Hawks, i.e.; reconcile past & present continuities and storylines.
February 14, 2011 8:22 pm Nostalgia for the old Giffen/DeMatteis JL days keeps me coming back for more. Once they're gone, I'm gone and I'll just wallow in Doom Patrol for my Giffen fix, I guess.

I'm very partial to the super-teams that had their own rogues, especially the 70's-80's LOSH:

Fatal Five, Mordru, Time Trapper, LOSV, the Khund and the Dark Circle, and Kirby or no Kirby, I always think of Darkseid as a Legion villain, as I had not read any 4th world comics before the Great Darkness Saga.

JLA had guys like Dr. Destiny and The Key, but their rogues list was pretty light compared to the 70's-80's Avengers: Ultron, Count Nefaria, Korvac, Thanos.
