Xeno

Name: Jan Mangubat

Bio: My name is Xeno. In the real world, I go by the name Jan. I'm a law student, a Filipino and comic book fan and collector. I loved reading comics and started at the young age of 4. I only got comic books as gifts though and I had no money to buy it for myself back then, so I just got to read them occasionally. My passion for this very special art form didn't waiver though as I bought comics here and there during high school and intermittently during college. But after I graduated from college in 2009, I began collecting comic books full time. I was looking for back issues of Batman: Knightfall, and happened upon Batman: Battle for the Cowl, found it interesting, and gave it a try. I got hooked since then. I also love to draw (I would like to believe that I have above average skills) ever since I was young which probably contributed to my love for comics. I'm also interested in TV shows and movies. Philippines represent! Favorite Comic Book Character: Batman and Spider-man Favorite Comic Book: Y: the last man Favorite Comic Book Writer: Geoff Johns Favorite Comic Book Artist: Ethan Van Sciver Favorite Comic Book Publisher: Marvel and DC Comic book quirk: I only buy Marvel and DC in issues. I don't want TPBs and HCs, except its a creator owned comic book that's hard to find like the past Vertigo titles, like Y: the last man. If a non Marvel or DC comics is really good, I'd buy it, but only in HC, like The Walking Dead.

July 22, 2011 9:30 pm Before this, I always thought that Jim Lee was "overrated". But seeing this pages from the upcoming JLA made me see how great Jim Lee really is.
July 22, 2011 9:26 pm I should be happy with this news since The Sixth Gun is one of my favorite series right now, but I just don't have that much faith in Syfy to give it justice. I would have liked it better if it was to be done by Starz at the very least. Still hoping Syfy does it well though.
July 22, 2011 12:20 pm Captain America doesn't come out in our country until the 27th, so I'm just curious Conor, what do you think is better, this or Thor? I just want to know what to expect from this because I'm having a feeling that this would be a lot better than Thor, although Thor was also good.
July 21, 2011 11:37 pm I'm really loving the newfound boldness of DC comics. Star trek/Legion of superheroes crossover? Who would've thought this was possible? I just hope they do another crossover which actually interest me 'cause I'm not really a trekkie nor a legionnaire.
July 21, 2011 11:24 pm Wow! what a nice and informative article!
July 18, 2011 11:07 am I totally hate it when others impose that their opinion is the "right" opinion. Why call it an opinion, then? And yes, one's PoTW is a form of opinion. There is a thing called individuality, and that's what makes each and everyone of us different from another person. A majority of people having the same opinion doesn't automatically make them right. And honestly, if you base your enjoyment on a comic book from the enjoyment of others on such comic book, then I pity you. And as what was said already by Ifanboy and the other comments  here, the PoTW is based on what the reviewer thought was the best comics of the week. They repeat that every week on the podcast!

It's funny that while this guy was complaining about the PoTW, he just became the Douche of the Year. I wonder if the essence of the Hatemonger bonded with this douche...

P.S: What the hell is this vindication you're talking about?! WTF?! I laughed when I heard that, its like someone's DEMANDING you to pick the "right" PoTW, haha. Just ignore that voice inside your head....and see a psychiatrist!
June 30, 2011 12:09 pm HOLY $#!+!!! I was just wishing for a news like this for 2 weeks now after that wonderful first season of Game of Thrones. It's a shame Phil Noto wasn't tapped as the artist for it though...
June 24, 2011 1:14 pm Phil Noto is so on top of my fave artist list because of that Tyrion art!
June 23, 2011 8:11 am I perfectly agree with this pick. I read Ultimate Spider-man 160 and it got me bored. That whole issue could have been told in just 4 pages. Something I hate about some of the book Bendis writes. It's too decompressed. The Rocketeer on the other hand is just unlike any other comics in the stands right now, showcasing different talents about a great character. It may not add to a continuing narrative but it presents enjoyable stories nonetheless.

Ultimate Spider-man 160 having a large PoTW percentage in my opinion is only because most fanboys are just bandwagoners who easily get swept with a major event in comics.
June 22, 2011 9:36 pm FINALLY!! Rocketeer Adventures made the pick!! I was not even aware of The Rocketeer and this mini series made me a fan, it's that good.

Very nice pick Conor!
