February 1, 2012 4:20 pm When me and my girlfriend got together she had read many of the "best comics has to offer" type books, Watchmen, Blankets, Some assorted Wolverine, Spider-Man, and many Bat-Family books. I got her really interested in the medium with Umbrella Academy: Apocalypse Suite, she just got layed off from work, so now she gets to read pretty much my whole Pull List before I do (Excluding a few Titles, such as The Boys, which she doesn't like) her current favorites are American Vampire, Batman, and Swamp Thing. Also, I think she might have a crush on Scott Snyder.
November 22, 2011 4:09 pm I'm thankful for Scott Snyder. Having actually met him at a CBLDF event this year really put the whole industry I'm trying to break into in perspective for me. He's a great guy, who deserves all the success he gets, and then some. And I'm thankful we live in a time, where despite all the bad in the world, we have this amazing escapist fantasy that comics bring us.
November 16, 2011 10:20 pm Ugh. Yet another one of the good ones bites the dust. I know it's been said before, but why not cancel things like X-Factor, or Daken? X-23 was actually good month to month, and if they could have kept Phil Noto on the book for even like...5 more issues I would have been in heaven. At least Laura will have a presence in AA...which I will probably have to start getting. Unless she actually opts to join Logan at Westchester, which would be awesome. As long as Marvel doesn't cancel Uncanny X-Force I'll be fine.
November 10, 2011 3:24 pm Speaking as a retailer this isn't "placating" us at all. At least with the DC titles most people don't want the bundle packs because they cost more. Marvel is literally trying to hemmorage business from retailer who got them, and their Distinguished Competition through the 80s and 90s. I recognize that this is the future of the medium, in theory anyways, we don't really know for sure right now because we're not allowed to see numbers, but it more than likely IS. This is just a really backhanded way to handle it. On a side note, the Ultimate Line is pretty much the best place to test the waters, as far as I can tell they books aren't really selling by the truckload, so it would be easier to see a significant increase in sales, if the free Digital Copies do indeed have this effect.
November 5, 2011 1:18 am You can see her fingers on the cover, so I'm guessing that whole situation is going resolve itself pretty soon. Plus the level of butthurt that would arise of Emma was asymmetrical would be, I think, Unbearable.
November 4, 2011 1:12 pm I understand the Miller hate, I really do. He's really not for everyone. But the fact is, he pretty well admitted to not knowing ANYTHING about the subject matter. To me, that's worth something. And the cold hard truth is, he will keep getting work, because people will buy what he makes, just like Jeph Loeb. But hey, I think that at this point Frank Miller has really embraced his place in the comic book world, he gives a buncha money to the CBLDF, and has enough money left over to Write specifically for his extremely devoted fanbase.
November 3, 2011 7:13 pm At comic-con last year, bear in mind this was before DCs big Digital Push, Digital sales were less than 1% of overall sales. I imagine that number has gone up significantly since DCs big push. And it will only continue to increase once Marvel's completely day and date digital, and I have to say, the whole thing does kind of feel like a stab in the back to comic shops, as neither of those companies would have been afloat through the 90s without the direct market. However the idea for individual portals for Comic Shops is a great idea that DC has suggested, allowing comic shops to still make profit from digital sales. If/When digital is the theorhetical powerhouse that everyone thinks it will be, I would urge everyone to make your digital purchases from a Local Shop if at all feasible.
November 3, 2011 5:46 pm Pretty much my thoughts exactly. Nick Fury and Black Widow either have Precognition or is an omega level Guesser. Seriously guys, just let Fear fade into memory, or better yet, retcon it so that it happened on an alternate earth. (We can keep Incredible Hulk though, that would be OK >.>)
November 2, 2011 1:41 pm Aside from the usual nerd go-to's of Magic: The Gathering and Tabletop gaming. Theatre has been my major hobby for about 10 years now. In front of the curtain or behind it, I just love the society that comes along with it. At my lcs though, many of us are pretty entrenched in both the Harry Potter-Verse, so much so that we actually call our non-regular customers Muggles.
October 27, 2011 10:21 pm Readers too expensive, purist, collector, etc. etc. I honestly just don't see the pull. The superior light quality, does not, in my opinon make up for how completely awful Splash Pages look on Tablets and/or readers. I recognize that they look better on a Desktop, but honestly, I don't read comics at my house, for the most part, I read them either A) at my lcs on wednesday, or B) At work, a coffee shop, etc. Above all else though, that Digital takes away, is the atmosphere of a Comic Shop. It's a place to go hang out, talk shop, bullshit about everything Nerd Culture. I understand that many people have pretty bad shops near them. Hopefully the Portals that DC and Marvel are making for LCS' will catch on, and I seriously urge everyone who buys digital to urge a local shop to set up a Portal so you can support the shop. Or if you dont have one near you, find one's portal online. Support the Comic Shops that made Digital comics possible.
