March 23, 2011 9:04 pm Wow, significantly different from my list. GL had a jump at the start but otehr than that it was solid. The Sinestro character arc was superb. I'm suprised you would rate Apokolypse as anything but last. That one was horrid.
Oh well. At the end of the day I'm glad that they are all finding an audience. I just hope the "Action over Substance" films (S/B) don't beomce to define these and push out the ones with an actual story worth telling and some skill behind the narative (Red Hood, New Frontier, All Star Supes).
January 7, 2011 9:57 pm About time someone put Moore in his place.
Just because the man wrote some stories we enjoyed, doesn't mean he is an infallible god.
Moore is an example of one man believing his own hype.
I'm glad Aaron has the balls to stand up to him. EVeryone else is too scared to say what they think.
December 31, 2010 10:26 pm Loved Afrodisiac, a well deserved win. Great to see such originality being rewarded in this way.

However.

Worst reason for not picking a book for Book of the Year though goes to The Outfit. "Its better than what we chose for BOTY last year, but its too similar". Either its the best book of the year or its not. Poor form.

If you want it to be the "Top reccomendation of 2010" then do that, but Book of the year should be for the best book of the year, regardless of how many awards previous books in the same series were given.

But in the end, Afrodisiac won. And Afrodisiac is a great book. Well done.

i guess it is a nive transition between the black "blur" costume and the eventual Superman costume, but jeez it looked a bit gar-ish...yet very Smallville (pro or con, you decide).

Disapointed that Deadshot didn't use his eye target in his final attack on Cat.

End of Season climax = JLA+JSA+SS vs Apokolypse New Gods, with a final SUPERMAN vs Darkseid showdown.

Sounds pretty cool to me.

Has there been any news on Cyborg, Flash or Martian Manhunter returning?

I never said "stories" are unnecessary, I am saying that Filler issues are unnecessary, meaning that they are unecessary to the overall narrative.

If you disagree with this then please outline what you felt this issue contributed to Morrison's overall narrative that hadn't ben covered before.

This felt VERY "filler" to me.

I love Morrison, and I love his work on Batman. I just felt that this issue did not fit with his Batman/Final Crisis style. It was very slow and drawn out with not much in terms of development or progression. Compared to the compression style he used althrouhg RIP, FC and most of B&R, this felt...almost...boring.

However, one aspect I did find note worthy was the connections Bruce seems to be making between Hurt and Darkseid.

Hurt: "I am the hole in things"

Darkseid: Fell through time creating a hole which everything is being pulled down towwards. "there is a black hole where my heart shuld be.

Then Batman comments that the hole is all around him when he is flying to the JLA =, At this point we are in FC time, the world is beomcing more in the grips of Darkseid.

Are Hurt and Darkseid similar or the same? Is Hurt like a herald fo Darkseid, similar to Libra?

There is likely to be a connection.

I wasn't a huge fan of the first one, but I was VERY happy wioth this film. IMO IM2 is the best Marvel film to date.

It was funny, it had some great character moments (ulike the first one, which got praised for character development, but didnt actually have that much).

I also thought that, considering they are tieing these films into an Avengers film, that the main sequence in this film did a very good job of contributing to the Iron Man 2 film. The second sequence at the end of the film was alright too and as it served as an eppilogue to the film, rather than being part of the main film narrative, it didnt matter that it was explicit to the Avengers tie in. And the Cap Easter Egg was just a bit of fun.

And the action climax was rewarding, although I would have preferred a long Whiplash battle.

At the end of the day Iron Man 2 is an excellent example of how having an A-Grade cast can really elevate a film beyond the sum of the parts.
