May 19, 2017 2:36 pm Great choice for a book guy. I'm one of the few people that actually knew this book was coming and have been anticipating it so much (Essex County is easily my favorite comic ever, and I have you guys to thank for talking about it back in the day) so I was so excited to see there was a Booksplode about it. In the Booksplode a couple times Josh brought up the point of what does Lemire have to say about the First Nations people in Canada. Ron brought up the other book he just put out, Secret Path, which was a collaboration with Gord Downie. I just wanted to point out since it sounds like none of you guys have had a chance to check it out that that book deals with a lot those same struggles and I'm sure working on that had a huge impact on Roughneck. From Wikipedia: "The project is a concept album about Chanie Wenjack, a young Anishinaabe boy from the Marten Falls First Nation who died in 1966 while trying to return home after escaping from an Indian residential school. All proceeds from the album and book are being donated to the University of Manitoba's National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation project" Thanks again guys, keep up the good work!
May 16, 2016 12:14 pm Man, I still just can't believe Darwyn is gone. What an absolutely singular personality, there's definitely a huge hole in comics that I don't see anyone filling for a very, very long time. If anyone hasn't read it there's a lengthy interview that Darwyn asked to do with The Comics Journal back in 2007 that is fantastic. http://www.tcj.com/the-darwyn-cooke-interview-by-markisan-naso I went back to reread it and this line really got me: "NASO: In the Wizard article, your friend Jimmy Palmiotti said when people hang out with you, you are a madman, but your work is calm. Why do you think you embody such extremes? COOKE: I’m a typical romantic who has been beaten down to a hard, flat and cynical composite. The real world is a heartbreaking bitch, but my romantic heart still tries to put it out there in my work. My partner back at the ad agency said I was “burnt on one side and raw on the other.”"
November 30, 2015 11:03 pm Hadn't finished the episode when I posted, heard you both picked it up. Any chance of a discussion on it in the future? I miss the Book of the Month though I understand it's a lot of work. Also would love to hear your guys' thoughts on Two Brothers.
November 30, 2015 1:46 pm Any of you guys pick up Our Expanding Universe? I got it last week and thought it was fantastic.
November 16, 2015 3:34 pm Do the orbs in Twilight Children make anyone else think of The Prisoner, or is that just me?
November 11, 2015 4:47 pm Question, did any of you guys pick up the book the Immonens put out earlier this year (I think it's an ad house book)? Also, I agree that it's going to be a big blow when Stuart undoubtedly moves on from Star Wars to newer pastures, he's so damn good.
November 10, 2015 3:54 pm Oh that makes sense. Also wanted to say that while I haven't been listening to the show since the start (I started listening in 2009) I have twice gone back to the start and listened to every episode because the show and your guys' dynamic/chemistry is just so great and compelling. Thanks for everything.
November 9, 2015 5:50 pm Congrats on 10 years guys! Also I'm a huge fan of the influx of Texas is the Reason since Ron's been back.
October 8, 2015 4:49 pm Great conversation on Robert Moses: The Master Builder of New York City. I've had it on my wishlist since it came out and have been meaning to give it a look, will definitely check it out now.
July 29, 2015 12:35 am Josh, you could indeed play the original xbox on a closed LAN. It was the only way I every played it, back in high school me and my friends would play at our buddy's house and it was the best. We mostly played Halo, but we would also move the systems into different rooms and play Splinter Cell and hearing someone scream down the hall after you sneak up on them was amazing.
