June 2, 2016 1:56 pm I just can't explain it, but something with this show seemed completely off to me. Maybe it was some of the changes that were made, I don't know. I definitely was not grabbed by it, as I found this pilot a bit of a slog. I don't necessarily feel like this type of project needs to be a shot for shot adaptation, but good grief I'd like it to at least "feel" like Preacher to me...and this did not. And I'm sorry, but some of the changes felt completely unnecessary to me (the pacing, Tulip looking and acting nothing like Tulip, etc). I don't know who that woman was on the screen, but nothing about the character seemed like Tulip at all. There was a vulnerability to Tulip's character in the comics, at the same time she could still kick the ass of just about anyone. Here in the pilot, she was just plain old goofy, and quirky dialed up to an 8. No thanks. I believe all involved in the creative process have their hearts in the right place, but this wasn't enough. I will watch the next episode, albeit on a very short leash.
May 6, 2016 9:12 pm Conor, I agree. I really enjoy when people share who/what their favorites are and why. No giving people who have a difference of opinion a bad time. Just good old fashioned discussion. Heck, the suggestions of others lead me down paths of discovery I may not have found on my own.
May 3, 2016 12:30 am Sorry Conor, I gave you an extra "n" in my previous post. Rest assured it won't happen again!
May 3, 2016 12:27 am Absolutely. I thought it was fantastic, and it appears the gentleman of iFanboy enjoyed it as well (of course, there were hiccups here and there, but that's normal)! Call me crazy, but I truly believe that years from now this may be considered the greatest creative team run on the character, ever. I realize others have been with the character longer and were excellent as well, but.......just saying.
May 1, 2016 10:21 pm With you all the way Connor, I thought Batman was fantastic this week. It was like everyone in Gotham just wanted to take time to catch their breath...even several of the villains. The proverbial calm before the next storm. Am I wrong in remembering the Joker actually appearing in this issue, maybe for a panel or two? Wasn't he the guy sitting on the bench swatting at a fly near his neck?
April 23, 2016 3:31 pm I understand what you mean, and I agree with some of the things you said. Yes, absolutely creators and companies want their characters to work. Create something people enjoy, make some money, everyone is happy. To me it just feels like Moon Knigt is a character that had been dormant for so long, and there is obviously a reason for it. While I'm not saying every character created needs to reach the level of Spider-Man to be considered relevant, I'd say it's pretty clear Moon Knight just didn't connect with enough readers. If so, we would have consistently seen more of him. So, again, why now? I'd say this is a blip on the Marvel radar for a fleeting bit...Moon Knight will then fade off into obscurity, only to perhaps be dusted off again many years down the road. And I won't understand that try either.
April 20, 2016 12:57 pm Completely agree on the Moon Knight commentary. Why is Marvel so bent on pushing this character? I feel like he was just some d-list character for years. Is there a movie in the works I'm not aware of??
April 10, 2016 9:32 pm Great pick with The Fix...I couldn't agree more. Last summer I had the chance to talk to Steve Lieber at a comic book show in Columbus. I was telling him how much I enjoyed Superior Foes of Spider-Man, and he really seemed genuinely appreciative of my appreciation for that book. At that point he really opened up more (he had initially seemed a bit more guarded when I approached the table he was at) and started telling me more about his next project with Nick Spencer...something he was really excited to talk about. He ended by taking a comic book backing board and drew a sketch of Boomerang from Superior Foes on it for me. The whole experience with him was fantastic. Also in complete agreement on Sheriff of Babylon. Best issue of an already great series. Any comic that is willing to give us a slowed down moment between two characters is welcome by me. Finally, in Rogue One I was very happy to see Ben Mendelsohn. He looked great.
April 9, 2016 11:45 am I'd say cautious optimism with the DC Rebirth is kind of where I am as well. As always I will gravitate more towards creative teams than I do specific characters. Based on this I have my eye on The Flash, Batman (I'm pretty confident that Tom King will nail this one), All-Star Batman, Action Comics (though this one I will give a short leash), Supergirl (Orlando on Midnighter has been fantastic), Superman, Wonder Woman...only 7 books...not a lot I realize, but... Overall I just don't like how DC appears to be a rudderless ship. Where is the leadership? One that has a creative vision, a plan of implementation, and then the nerve to stick to that plan. There was Flashpoint, which leads to the New 52, which then gives way to Rebirth...ugh. Enough. Enough spitting on your finger to see which way the wind is blowing with fans. Just do what you believe is right for your creators and for your characters. Fans will come and go, and you'll never satisfy everyone. If the product shows strength and consistency, the fans will be there. I just hope for the best. A strong DC, Marvel, Image, Valiant, Boom, etc, is great for us all. And finally, great show as always gentlemen. The three of you I lean on most heavily for insights and just flat out wonderful comic book discussion.
