Name: Rafael Moras

Bio: I grew up in a home filled with my father and his siblings' worn-out, old, Mexican-edition copies of Carl Barks "Scrooge McDuck" comics and many Silver Age DC Comics, in addition to a bunch of "Boris Karloff" and "Turok Son of Stone" Golden Key issues. Every time I visited my grandparents' house in Veracruz, I simply devoured them, and my father was more than happy to feed my enthusiasm for reading them with his own. When I was in elementary school my dad took my brother and I to a comic book convention where I bought a ton of back-issues (mostly late 80's and early 90's Spider-Man and Marvel Godzillas), and from then on my love for comics was pretty much set for life. After that, I read every single Spider-Man comic I could get my hands on and had a blast reading Dark Horse's "Godzilla" and "Gamera" comics (I'd grown up watching a lot of Godzilla and anime as a kid). For a while after, that it was difficult for me to get to a comics store with consistency since I was so young, and by the time the Clone Saga rolled around I stopped trying to go entirely (I absolutely HATED Ben Reilly at the time, even as a little kid, lol). The combined experience of reading "Maus" and "Understanding Comics" for the first time got me interested again, however. A trip to the awesome "Marvel Superhero Island" theme park and picking up the first printing of the "Ultimate Spider-Man: Power and Responsibility" trade got me hooked again, for good. From then on, USM and Dreamwave's "Transformers" comics formed the core of my first pull-lists as I graduated frok middle school and entered high school. I grew up watching a lot of anime in Mexico (it formed a large portion of what they aired for kids back then), so along with "Spider-Man", "Godzilla", and "Transformers", "Dragonball" and a few other anime and manga have been big parts of my fandoms as well. I sincerely think this website and community are a fantastic idea beautifully executed, and I look forward to hearing what not only the founders but a good deal of the other writers and community members have to say week in and week out. Thanks you Josh, Ron, and Conor for putting together such a great site and show each week, and thanks to the many other folks on the iFanboy team as well for all of their continued enthusiasm and hard work in that same endeavor! So until the standard price for an issue goes back to $2.25......"MAKE MINE iFANBOY!" :)

I just read this first issue and as a life-long G-Fan, had a really, really great time doing so! I really hope this franchise does well for IDW and that they continue to publish and expand the line well into the future :)

March 30, 2011 5:25 pm Great review Josh :)

I read this issue while sitting alone in my car, straight out of the store, and I literally let out an audible gasp while reading it.

That's never happened to me before.
March 28, 2011 5:59 pm LOL Yeah I agree; that's a pretty humongous eye, even by Godzilla standards XD

BUT YOU KNOW, MY ALL-CAPS TEXT SURE DOES SEEM TO FIT THE COMICS' SUBJECT MATTER WELL, DON'T YOU THINK? XD

And although this isn't a Japanese comic book, I guess in a way we are getting our own "Manga Monster movie" with this series in that it's something akin to a "Monster Movie in Manga-form", despite the fact that it's created by Americans and is set to be published here in the United States. "Manga" is just the Japanese word for comic book, and outside of Japan, it's usually the term used to denote comics published originally in Japan. :)
March 28, 2011 4:57 pm GAAAAAAAAAAAH I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS I CAN'T EVEN TELL YOU GUYS!!! XD
