March 29, 2013 11:55 am If you guys are looking for another booksplode to do. Mark Gruenwald's Squadron Supreme maxi-series from the 80s is a great work of comic fiction that people rarely talk about. Not only could you talk about the work, you could also discuss the ethical and moral implications that run rampant throughout the story.
January 25, 2013 9:50 am Hardwick should fight the greatest villian comic's have ever known. Dr. Fredric Wertham. The Mandroid is a hero of wits. He needs a villian of outright lunacy and hyperbole to truly match. Wertham's finest power is to jump to rash conclusions with little support. This would challange the Mandroid's power as a talk show host because he would ask him the tough questions. Also Werthem was a McCarthiest and Hardwick in the "red" media so they would be natural enemies. Here's what it would read like. "Chris Hardwick the mandroid is on the run. His arch-nemisis Dr. Fredric Wertham has used his considerable enfluence to call Hardwick to Congress where he has to appear before the comittee of anti-american affairs. How can Hardwick hope to save the Innocent from Seduction, while also having to battle Wertham and his red scare cronies? Pick up this book to find out."
November 8, 2012 3:54 pm Can I also suggest Justice League Internation vol 1 TPB by Giffen, Dematteis, and MaGuire. This is where Gardner fully matured into a team player and also has a great interactions with the other characters, including the "Punch heard round the world."
September 26, 2012 3:08 pm Great Article but I have to disagree on one point. Captain Marvel may have one of the greatest central antagonists in all of comics, Thanos. And unlike Darkseid there is a much more personal interaction between these two. (Read: Starlin's Cosmic cube saga, Death of Captain Marvel, and the recent Thanos Imperative storyline.) As you said one villian does not make a gallery so Marvel should be excluded, but it has to be pointed out. Also Nitro started Civil War and he was another of Marvel's villians.
September 6, 2012 4:43 pm The Falcon finally gets his own series?
May 18, 2012 1:08 pm I agree with the Death of Captain Marvel, but Marvel put out a great TPB Titled "The Life and Death Of Captain Marvel" that contained both the death TPB and Captain Marvel #27-#34? that collects Marvel's first run-in with Thanos as he attempts to grab the cosmic cube. This story is closely related to the avengers movie in that they are both about Thanos trying to gain the Cosmic Cube.
May 9, 2012 4:45 pm What about Mutant X? There was a Marvel comic book by that name starring Alex Summers. Does the name connection make it count? Or does it not count cuz it's a TV show.
February 29, 2012 9:55 am I hope the special guest star is the Sentry, Marvel's most popular character.
October 27, 2011 5:43 pm I like in the original mini... where's he's scared of the kingpin because he's so fat... it happened...
