Pick of the Week #491 – Howard The Duck #4
June 29, 2015 5:05 pm Hi Ron, I'm reading Secret Wars: X-tinction Agenda, too, but I came to it in an odd way. Marvel sent me a solicit in an email to subscribe to Uncanny Avengers: Vol 2. I signed up for a one year subscription, and then after Issue #4, I got another email telling me that the series was ending and that my subscription was being changed to X-tinction Agenda. I felt this was unfair, but I had just read X-tinction Agenda artist Carmine Di Giandomencio's X-Men: Magneto: Testament, and it was so good that I didn't complain about Marvel giving me the old bait and switch.
Nice to hear you podcasting.

2014 All Media Year End Roundup
December 21, 2014 11:11 pm I found Fargo so depressing. The crimes which drove its plots were cruel and ugly, like when a man is murdered while he's screwing a woman so his dead body lies on top of her. It made my skin crawl. I also take issue with the show's portrayal of the people of Bemidji. It's insulting how everyone in the place looks like an idiot. There is never any doubt that characters like Bill the Chief of Police, Don Chumph the personal trainer, or Sam Hess' sons will be out-smarted. I saw many episodes, but when one bumbling character shot another accidentally (in a fog like in that Christopher Nolan movie "Insomnia") I said goodbye to this brutish program.
Merry Christmas and THANK YOU iFanboy.

November 3, 2014 4:07 am Is Ghostbusters 2's walking Statue of Liberty really that bad? It's a symbol of US brotherhood that conquers the hate sludge.

Special Edition – The Flash
October 8, 2014 1:06 am I liked that there were protestors outside of STAR Labs. I suppose they had assembled due to the unpredictability of the particle accelerator, but having read Grant Morrison's "Animal Man" I understand the concerns around STAR Labs to also include cruel animal testing. Maybe Grodd's wrath will come from the same place as Koba in "Rise of the Planet of the Apes." Perhaps Barry will turn his back on STAR Labs someday, like the way Invincible in Image Comics split from Cecil Steadman and the Global Defense Agency over ethical concerns. I enjoyed the special effects used to make Barry appear faster than humanly possilbe this episode. The design's crackling and streaking energy reminds me of Francis Manapul's illustrations, a very fine Flash artist.
Thank you for posting this tonight. You're fast.

Pick of the Week #441 – The Wicked + The Divine #1
June 23, 2014 9:14 pm @BigAlWilliams I jumped on board with this issue of Original Sin. I was hoping things would get really weird because Uatu the Watcher's book "What If..." had so many freaky scenarios in the '90s. But for me Issue #4 of Original Sin isn't as fun as "What If... The Marvel Super-Heroes Had Lost Atlantis Attacks," or "What If... Wolverine Was Lord of the Vampires." This mini-series is a lot more down to earth. I love the characters that Jason Aaron chose to group together, and I really liked the frenetic use of the color red that Mike Deodoato used in the fight between Gamora Vs The Winter Soldier, but I wish the character the Orb wasn't the wackiest thing here. I haven't made up my mind if I'll read Issue #5.
