April 28, 2018 10:56 am Loved it! Loveeeeeddddd it! No real nitpicks for me. I never read the Infinity Gauntlet story in the comics. So I was fine with Thanos' motivation. My crowds cheering moment was when the Guardians appeared flying through space bopping to the Rubberband Man. I enjoyed that scene but was glad they did not do more Guardians pop culture music scenes. Although I was waiting for a Peter Quill vs Dr. Strange discussion about when a particular 70's song came out. They probably thought the Peter Parker Footloose reference was more than enough. I was surprised by the cliffhanger but liked it. Thought they were killing off Bucky but, like you guys, as soon as Black Panther and Spider-Man got dusted I figured they are bringing everyone back. I noted that only the original Avengers (except Hawkeye who may or may not be dusted) were not dusted and survived at the end. Figured this meant they will either all or most get killed off in Part 2 trying to bring back everyone else. Since these are the actors who are done with their contracts and don't want to come back. Agree with Josh. They can always bring back the characters with new actors (James Bond, Batman, Sherlock Holmes, etc.). I have been saying this is why they should just recast Indiana Jones as well. it is the characters the people come to see and not the actors playing them. Still in awe as to what Marvel Studios accomplished (19 films over 10 years) and just can't wait for May 2019.
March 26, 2016 5:39 pm Hey guys, Have not chimed in for a long time. My wife passed away just over a year ago. It was sudden and unexpected and I am still dealing with the pain. I did want to start by saying thank you to the Ifanboy group because listening to all of you discuss comic book movies, tv shows, etc has often cheered me up during an extremely difficult time. I enjoyed the discussion about Batman v Superman. I also went into it with low expectations due to the initial buzz. I have to say that I actually liked more than I disliked. It was not garbage or a hot mess. I found myself entertained and was not bored. However, I will concede that my love for these characters makes me cut them a ton of slack. More so then say the X-men. Ron, nothing is as bad as the mess that is X-Men: The Last Stand. This movie does not deserve a comparison to that atrocity. Agree the Batman stuff was very good. Wonder Woman great. Superman stuff not as much but it really didn't bother me because Superman has not really interested me as a character for the last decade or so. I only read him in Justice League and not in his individual books. You are all right that going with the Doomsday (Death of Superman) story at this point is a bad idea as it is not earned. DC and Warner Bros clearly learned nothing from Green Lantern as that was a major problem with that movie. While it certainly was not great, this movie does have me looking forward to the Justice League movie (Part 1) coming out in 2017. You wanted a Batman/Wonder Woman team up movie and it sounds like that is what you will be getting with Part 1 as they search out and form the Justice League. One more thing. JJ Abrams is great. But he is not infallible. Don't forget that in Star Trek Into Darkness he made the same mistake about doing an unearned storyline too soon with his redo of the final scene from Wrath of Khan. Thanks again for the work that all of you do and the great podcast.
June 15, 2014 1:21 pm Paul, Ghostbusters is genius. Dogs and Cats, Living Together, Mass Hysteria!! Someone saw a cockroach up on 12. That must be some cockroach. Bite your head off, man. Personally, I think its a sign from God. But don't quote me on it. Yeah, I think that's a smart move, Mike. One of the great comedies of all time.
April 5, 2014 5:39 pm Loved this movie. Great from beginning to end. I'm a big fan of Brubaker's Cap & Winter Soldier storyline and they did a great job with this film. Liked the after credits shot with Bucky at the Smithsonian. For a moment I thought they were going to have a kid spot him and that he would turn to the camera (and the kid) and go "shhh" like Steve had done earlier in the movie.
December 24, 2013 8:17 am Still listening but through the movie portion and am enjoying the podcast very much. Conor, we are usually on the same page moviewise but mark me down as one of the ones who did not enjoy The Lone Ranger. Saw they were definitely trying for the Pirates vibe and it did not work for me. If you do like the character, I am currently reading The Lone Ranger Chronicles - an anthology of short stories by various authors including Chuck Dixon and Denny O'Neil. It's pretty good. Also, did any of you see a movie this year called The Way Way Back? A really good coming of age movie with a great performance by Sam Rockwell. Always enjoy the podcasts. Have a Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year.
August 27, 2013 10:19 pm Can't believe Superman Returns out grossed Batman Begins. How did that happen??
August 27, 2013 10:17 pm Dredd was very good. In case anyone has not seen it, you can now catch it on Netflix streaming.
August 24, 2013 8:32 am I agree that we should just wait and see. But I disagree with your assertion that Hollywood is smarter than the rest of us. Hollywood was going to cast Tom Selleck instead of Harrison Ford in Raiders. It was going to cast Dougray Scott instead of Hugh Jackman in X-Men. I think the main point to get across is, to paraphrase William GoldMan, that no one in Hollywood (or anywhere else) knows anything. So, let's just see what happens. We are all going to go see this movie no matter what anyway.
August 22, 2013 10:09 pm Although I can't wait for him to say "You're suspect" to Superman with a Boston accent.
August 22, 2013 10:02 pm I actually would have preferred Ryan Gosling. Don't think this is the right move. Guess we will just wait and see.
