December 15, 2010 4:08 pm @Kodaiji  Exactly my point! Also the Captain Marvel cover is clearly anti-Kree. Totally offensive.

Good times. I agree with the list.

This list.

Pros: Two amazingly racist covers.
Cons: Rick Jones.

June 11, 2010 10:06 am It was tough for me to like this book. I'll argee that Brubaker seems to be taking a back to basic approach, but Baron Zemo didn't seem right to me. Nicieza really evolved the character over in Thunderbolts. It seemed like Zemo was taking quite a few steps backwards here. I'm all for Zemo as a villain, but he has a lot of depth. He wants to control the world in order to save it. Here he seems to be going back to his dime store villain roots. I shouldn't care too much about continuity, but Nicieza really defined a character who wasn't really defined before. Now all of that is being erased so Cap can have another villain.

I love this article because I feel the same way about Thunderbolts. It's been my favorite Marvel title, but ever since Nicieza left, it hasn't been the same. Speaking of Nicieza, I think he deserves as much if not more credit than Busiek. What Fabian did with the title was amazing. Baron Zemo growth as a character was simply stunning.

As for this new run, I think Jeff Parker may finally get things back on track. He's a writer who rarely forgets the past. You could tell he knows what worked for the Thunderbolts. I can't wait to see more.

March 11, 2010 2:31 pm I had no idea any of this was going on, and totally missed out. I'm a frequent Amazon user, and I'm glad to hear the news about the coupon.
June 15, 2009 9:50 am Brubaker writes a good Captain America. I don't care if its Steve Rogers or Bucky. I'm sure it's not as obvious as it seems. I'll be reading this.

...Yikes! Ok...so the 90s were horrible. There's still some hidden gems within that Amalgam line though,

I too have that horrible 90s crossover. The interesting thing about it was that fans voted on the main events, but there were certain battles that weren't voted on...Thor vs Captain Marvel, Flash vs Quicksilver...etc. In the end Marvel ended up winning strictly due to popularity. I'm curious to see if 10+ years later fans might vote differently on certain battles I think Storm may lose out to Wonder Woman these days, but anyway that crossover was pretty terrible.

One of my favorite Marvel/DS crossovers was the Batman/Hulk crossover. The Jose Luis Garcia artwork was incredible. It was written by Len Wein I believe.

On a side note, I absolutely loved some of those Amalgam issues. Generation Hex was a nice little story that still holds up, and Spider-Boy Team Up with art by Ladronn was good stuff.

Great article. I also disagreed with a lot of Willingham's comments, but I don't really understand the storm they caused. Most of us comic fans are liberals, but that doesn't mean we have to crucify everyone with a conservative view. Your article didn't crucify the man, but some fans have been. I don't really see the need for that.
