Special Edition – The Suicide Squad
August 14, 2021 8:15 pm I have no issue with long films so long as they’re well paced, though that’s fairly subjective. I will say that comedies and action comedies often outstay their welcome after about 90 minutes. There are obviously exceptions. I did ultimately have fun with the movie, but in a critical evaluation I had to contend it felt bloated. Perhaps I repeated that once too often in the discussion.

May 15, 2021 1:24 pm Ha! I guess I meant—or should have said—the script was messier than *some of the better DCAU movies*. if not the typical DCAU script.

December 23, 2019 7:36 am Ditto to pretty much everything Conor said. ESB and TFA remain my favorites, but I had a blast with this one too.

Special Edition – Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker
December 23, 2019 7:33 am Well. It’s the rule of two except when it isn’t. Sidious was long at the top with his respective chief lieutenant, but we learn that they often have secret apprentices and that Sidious himself has all these backup apprentices. That’s not just in the retconned Legends material, but in stories in the new Disney lore. They’re bad guys, so they play by the rules only when it suits them.

2018 All Media Year End Roundup
December 23, 2018 12:16 pm Josh, re: Mr. Rogers:
You wondered whether there were two Mr. Rogers movies. Is it possible you're thinking of one of the Mr. Rogers biographical books that came out this year alongside the documentary? I think the books weren't as universally acclaimed as the Won't You Be My Neighbor documentary. They're also working on a biopic with Tom Hanks as Fred Rogers. And there are also the two RBG films (RBG and On the Basis of Sex), but the latter is a drama and only just started screening. It's not getting the same praise the doc did though, which is discouraging. I thought it looked promising.
As always a joy to listen to, guys. I missed so many of these items during the year, but I just enjoy hearing you guys harken back to what you valued over the past twelve months. Much love and happy holidays!

Pick of the Week #657 – The Sentry #5
October 28, 2018 7:07 pm Yeah, I was spreading the good news of Stray Bullets for a while there. Specifically the "Killers" arc. I'm a sucker for coming of age crime comics.

Special Edition – Batman: Mask of the Phantasm
August 4, 2017 9:20 am Mea culpa. This is one of those things I was aware of at some point and then completely forgot. It's a pretty shameless lift too. Watch this comparison, particularly the side-by-side at the end:
