Name: Parker Holland

Bio: I live in Texas and once worked in the office of a large comic book store in the area. Through this I learned some of the uglier sides of the comic distribution industry and have come out of the experience still loving comics but in a much different way and for many more reasons.I am currently on a "DnA" kick and am trying to collect all of their work that I can in issues since DC seems to have a "No Trades Allowed" policy when it comes to the majority of their work.

February 18, 2013 12:46 pm While Card did have these opinions before Ultimate Iron Man was released he was not on the board at the National Organization for Marriage until 2009. Ultimate Iron Man cam out in 2005 and 2007. So while he was giving his opinion before this he wasn't actively fighting against it until well after these books came out. I would be fine with him being let go from this book and not employed by any comics company. He has every right to speak his mind and fight for what he believes. But there are consequences to what you say and being a bigot should not be tolerated, especially by a company as large as Warner Bros.
June 13, 2012 12:04 pm Nice to see DC trying something genuinely new with the Talon comic. Even if it does end up stinking they are at least trying to introduce new characters.
June 13, 2012 12:03 pm While their old trade practices were horrible this one I understand. They really are screwed either way on this one. DC can either spread out all of the trades (like they are doing) or they could just release trades for everything every 6 months and flood the market. If they did this trade sales would surely take a hit. It stinks either way but I think they went with the best possible option.
June 8, 2012 12:54 pm For those asking about the other 3 titles being cancelled the article about this on IGN had thois info: "Last time DC launched new titles – dubbed the Second Wave back in May – they also lost a few of the original relaunch books, keeping the number of series in the DCU proper at 52. This time, however, that’s not the case. When I asked DC about this, they confirmed that they will indeed be publishing more than 52 titles come September. This doesn’t mean nothing will be getting canned – Justice League International has already been rumored to be ending at #12 in August, and Aaron Lopresti joining Sword of Sorcery appears to confirm this -- but it looks like they are no longer holding onto the "52 titles" rule."
May 10, 2012 8:18 pm Great. Now I have a new book to buy AND I have to rewatch seasons 1-4 of West Wing.
May 2, 2012 12:45 pm Very well written article Ryan, as usual. I say that with the caveat of wondering what the actual point of it was other than the geeky need to be able to say "See, I told you so." I have enjoyed watching the trailers for things like Avengers and Dark Knight but other than that I try to avoid any "leaked photos" or discussions and predicitions about what might happen in a movie no one has seen yet. I just want to go see a movie that I think might be good and decide, then and there, if it is. Maybe it's just that the headline of the article is so matter of fact, but I would have much rather gone into the movie without this thought in my head. Something just saying you were analyzing the trailer so I could have had the choice to click through and see it instead of a headline that, while it did grab me, was also potentially spoilery.
September 13, 2011 9:02 pm Loeb really should stick to his TV role now. In comics he seems like the kid who comes over, breaks all of your favorite toys (Ultimates, The Ultimate Universe, Hulk) and then walks away. Thankfully we make new friends who fix our toys (Hickman, Parker) so maybe somebody great will come in after to clean up whatever mess he makes. Then again maybe we get the Loeb who writes the "color" books and this is him finally putting that talent in a book that impacts the greater Marvel universe. I will hope for the latter while keeping my eye peeled for the former.
August 29, 2011 12:37 pm Great episode as always. My only question is for Josh. If the Ultimates concept is not for you then why were you the one to review it? I do not care for reality shows so I wouldnt write a review of the new season of Survivor. Not meant with any malice, just curious as to the editorial choice.
August 11, 2011 12:53 pm @nastysnow Some of the hate is just bandwagon jumping but the rest comes from his method. While the actual art looks ok to me it is the fact that he lightboxes (traces) women from stills in porn movies. While you can make an argument for this being ok with some characters he does it with everyone (not always from pornos
June 2, 2011 12:31 pm Wallace and Krul have been very hit or miss for me on their past work. Those will be titles I wait for reviews on and maybe pick up the trade. Speaking of trades, any ideas on if DC will speed up their releases with this new model?
