November 2, 2011 1:29 pm Music is also my main hobby, both listening and playing (drums). I actually spend more of my disposable income on music (big vinyl nerd) than comics these days. I haven't been able to play drums in awhile due to having twins a year ago but am hoping to find a band to join again next spring or summer. I've never really tried the songwriting thing...just don't think I have the talent for it. I'm also one of the two birders mentioned in Ryan's article, although I haven't been able to get out much aside from work in the last year due to the same being a dad thing. As my kids get older I anticipate I'll have more time for all this stuff (incl. comics) than I've had this past year, although of course I'll never have as much spare time as I did before I got married and had kids.
October 26, 2011 4:17 pm Because its song can go on and on and consists of various bird calls it's mimicking...it can also be very annoying to nearby human residents when it chooses to start singing at 5:00 in the morning, or in the middle of the night (which it can and often does)...similar to how annoying and continuous nerd rage on the Internet can be?
October 26, 2011 3:00 pm Aka. Northern Mockingbird. Do I detect a fellow birder/biologist here? Holy crap!
October 14, 2011 3:05 pm I pretty much came to the same realization when my twins were born almost a year ago. Now that I have even less time to read anything (including comics), my pull list is down to less than 10 titles a month (mostly creator-owned) and even those seem like a chore to read sometimes. I'm tempted to stop buying single issues altogether but have this nagging sense of guilt about supporting my local comic shop (only 5 mins from my house) so continue to go in once a month to pick up my books. I'm completely out of the loop with "what's happening" in the Marvel and DC superhero books (FF and JL Dark being the only ones I'm still reading) and am completely fine with it. There's plenty of trades out there should I ever feel the need to read more superhero stories.
October 7, 2011 7:16 pm Late to the party here but all I can say is that I can relate 100%. Since having twins almost a year ago my comics reading now consists of going to the store once a month (if that), picking up the 8-10 titles I'm still following, and trying to cram in reading when I can. I've pretty much stopped trying to follow "what's going on" in the comics world via the Internet, blogs, and yes, even this very podcast, sadly and sorry to say. I've also been getting back into my other obsession (music), so my time and budget availability for comics just ain't what it used to be. Sad but true!
October 7, 2011 6:51 pm Me neither. I may even just set this aside and wait for the last issue to come out before reading the entire arc.
August 18, 2011 12:50 pm I've pretty much stopped buying all major DC and Marvel books but will definitely be picking this up. The concept, creators, and characters are right up my alley.

Damn, I've been really enjoying Xombi. It's the only DC book I'm currently reading. Think I'll "replace" it with Justice League: Dark to keep the supernatural/horror/magic aspect. A book with both Zatanna and John Constantine written by Peter Milligan sounds right up my alley.

June 2, 2011 6:42 pm @alsotav - I agree. Kind of like how some (mostly indie) record labels will include a mp3 download code with LPs. People who only listen to mp3s can buy an album for cheaper, while those who want to pay a little more for a physical product are "rewarded" with a free digital version.
March 23, 2011 6:33 pm Thanks for sharing that specidic xkcd cartoon! I'm an ornithologist at an environmental consulting firm that includes a few herpetologists so of course had to immediately send this around the office. I especially love the herpetologist's poster in the second panel.
