Jimski

Name: Jim Mroczkowski

Bio: I have been a contributor/columnist for iFanboy since June 2008. Since then, I have written a ridiculous number of articles about comic books, far too many to name here. My most recent columns are listed here, while older pieces are listed in full over at Jimski.com.

September 9, 2013 11:44 am If I were "DC comics fan Kevin," and I really wanted to get into Marvel as a goal right here and now, I would subscribe to Marvel Unlimited. The monthly cost is low, and you get an all-you-can-eat buffet of books that are a few months old. It would allow Kevin to sample a variety of titles without spending a fortune taste-testing a bunch of stuff he didn't like. Plus, if you try a book and it makes no sense to you, you can usually browse for the origin or backstory right there in the app.
September 4, 2013 3:40 pm Also (I understand they're making nice with retailers, but) it is insane that their pull list isn't connected to their digital store. A "buy all" button at the top of that pull list page is a necessity.
September 2, 2013 8:00 pm This seems incredibly gauche even as I'm doing it, but it also seems like something I should do. I have no idea what I'm doing next, if anything. Part of me wants to vanish. But I might not! And if I don't, sightings of me will be here: Twitter.com/jimski Jimski.com yellingat.tumblr.com (this is minutes old; I set it up in a fit of iFanboy withdrawal, and it may amount to nothing) See you around, and thanks for the kind words. About the pull list.
September 2, 2013 12:31 am I feel like you think you're sticking it to somebody. "That does it. I'm taking my business elsewhere." "I just told you, we're closed."
September 2, 2013 12:28 am That Sentry piece was one of my favorites. I still think about it and laugh.
August 28, 2013 12:51 pm It's a licensed, pre-packaged property, but it has this anti-commercial message, but it's doing the exact thing it's ridiculing, but it's self-aware, but there's genuine product placement all over it... that pussycat is eating its own tail. I'd be much more on board if it didn't seem all too happy to belly up to the trough itself.
August 27, 2013 5:49 pm I literally answered this six comments up. Dozens of people talking to no one!
August 27, 2013 2:57 pm Similarly, G.I. Joe was adapted from Larry Hama's concept for "Fury Force," which was going to be a Nick Fury team fighting Hydra. Archie Goodwin came up with Cobra and Hama did everything else. USELESS KNOWLEDGE DUMP COMPLETE
August 27, 2013 2:55 pm I don't know how this influences the ruling, but Transformers got started with Hasbro buying Japanese toy lines and hiring Jim Shooter and Denny O'Neil to write the backstory for them.
August 27, 2013 12:20 pm My takeaway from all this is the sheer number of comic book movies that somehow got their asses handed to them by Howard the Duck. Poor Scott Pilgrim. Poor Inexplicable, Bewildering Cult of Josie and the Fucking Pussycats.
