If this was the only good comic to come out of the relaunch it was worth. Morrison has taken Superman…

February 4, 2013 4:13 pm I don't dispute that. I just wanted a pretext for adding my own analogy. Great review, Paul!
February 4, 2013 3:56 pm Great pick, Paul. I recently got through it. I don't know if I found the Kodansha pages quite as impersonal as you did but I agree they're very different from what is surrounding them. They do play a little like studio recordings surrounded by home-recorded demos but I think they're infused with the same drive and ambition, if not outright emotion, of the rest of the 'Deep Cuts.'
January 15, 2013 8:51 am I definitely agree with you guys. It's amazing with how disorganized DC seems to be how consistently bland the output is. You'd think with all the last minute changes something would slip out that would be a little more interesting in either a "this is offensively bad" or "this is awesomely good" kind of way. Instead, it's just bland.
January 15, 2013 8:42 am I feel your pain. I'm waiting on my Amazon pre-order, too!
November 8, 2012 4:47 pm Very true. It's just a shame her role seems to continually be minimized as she's shepherded an unreasonable number of my favorite comics over the years. Some prestige publishing house needs to hand her the reins of a comics division.
November 8, 2012 4:24 pm Alright, it's official. Karen Berger needs to start her own imprint at Image and bring back the Vertigo spirit.
June 19, 2012 4:07 pm Thanks for the recommendation. I picked up the series digitally issue by issue for the last week and really enjoyed it. Considering how vast comics history is, this series covers a lot of ground. As someone that took 4 literature courses on comic books in college, it was great to see Van Lente and Dunlavey cover a lot of material I haven't seen discussed outside of universities. Great book all round.
June 18, 2012 4:47 pm Yeah, it's been quite a wait for sure. It sounds like Pope is intimately involved in the production of the Battling Boy movie as well as writing and drawing the whole book and this has led the project to take longer than it potentially could have. But if we can get a killer new Paul Pope book with extended action sequences AND a Paul Pope-fueled movie, I'd say it's worth the wait. I'm just glad he's waiting until he's finished to release anything. That's the mark of a responsible creator to me. I'd rather not get 3 or 4 issues in and then be left hanging for years like other creators who will not be named have made me.
June 18, 2012 2:16 pm Makes me wish I had read this issue as a kid. I had to learn that lesson the hard way.
June 18, 2012 2:15 pm Paul Pope backup story this issue! I saw a preview and it looks great. It's exciting to seem some work from him as he continues to devote most of his time on his upcoming Battling Boy books.
