June 15, 2008 10:23 am Flat ending for me. The pacing was waaaayyy off in the last several minutes, starting with Kara's endless run. During the celebration, I kept asking myself, "Ok, so what's the big twist?". And then that last slow pan, while beautifully shot, took too long to reveal. I could tell from their initial reaction that Earth was uninhabitable, but it took sooooo loooooonnng to get around to showing us...something that kind of looked like a destroyed New York but not enough to be certain. It lacked the emotional punch of the Season 2 finale.

@PaulMontgomery: Betty also orders something called a "Mr. Pink" when she goes into the pizza parlor.

I loved it. I do really want to see the "Ed Norton cut", though. I'm curious about all the stuff that was chucked out.

I thought the CGI was really impressive for most of the film. The only time I thought it looked like a video game was when Hulk busted out of that walkway thing on the college campus.

Good article! I tend to think Elfman is a tad overrated. His Spider-Man theme is almost identical to his Batman theme. Also, all of his "fantasy" film stuff tends to run together (Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, Willy Wonka, etc.).

I think Jerry Goldsmith's epic "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" theme (rewrked into the Next Generation theme) deserves a mention as well.

And say what you want about the prequels, but "Duel of the Fates" from Phantom Menace and "Across the Stars" from Attack of the Clones are two of John Williams best pieces EVER (in my opinion, of course).
