January 14, 2013 12:48 pm I'm glad you mentioned Gail Simone because people always take that "you can't change anything" stance it seems. I'll tell you, my local Safeway was having quality issues which I noticed at several other stores. I brought it to their attention which got me in touch with corporate and they are changing their ENTIRE purchasing strategy based on my ideas. Same thing happened this week with Office Depot and an issue I had with their advertising and what it was promising based on my experiences with Windows 8. Again...I am meeting with corporate to talk about realistic expectations in advertising. We can change things. I don't think the petition will make any difference but in comics the change is easy. If you don't like it, you don't but it and it goes away. I'm sure some people are like "aren't you the guy who likes the changes in Spidey?" I do. I think they were well thought out. I don't however like ANYONE who capitalizes on other IP to get a slight bump in sales. It is lazy. It will always be lazy. If Hopeless was a talented writer (which I know he is) he would have created new characters that were engaging and interesting, but instead chose to take characters that many of us have invested a lot of time and money into, and treat them as if they are disposable in order to cash in on the most recent YA craze. I love Marvel. I do. But this just makes me surprised they didn't capitalize on Harry Potter to boost their "magic" universe or "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" to promote more women in comic roles. I can't believe so many people aren't at least a little "come on Marvel" about this. Guess that is why I'm reading more creator owned stuff than ever. At least it doesn't insult my intelligence.
January 14, 2013 12:40 pm I'm simply going to say this...for someone who did a story about how we need to be kinder and treat our creators with more respect, you seem to have missed it with this article. Respect is a two way street and while I don't think the petition is the right way to go, I do feel this disrespect the opinions of people I think have a valid gripe. The same titles you listed above had a clear and defined purpose, and after reading the first issue of Avengers Arena (which I wish I could get my money back for) I feel cheated of ever reading Runaways, Initiative, and Academy.
January 9, 2013 1:21 pm With Alonso talking the resurgence of cosmic I have a hard time not thinking Adam Warlock (which might be a bit of a stretch but birth makes me think of the cocoon) or Silver Surfer which is and will always be my favorite Marvel character that is not being used. Surfer would allow Marvel to explore more esoteric storylines for sure, which have always been the best Surfer stories in my opinion. You all have some good guesses though and this one has me really intrigued. Overall I've found the quality of Aaron's work (Scalped shows he would be amazing at doing a character exploration with SS) and Marvel NOW! I guess we'll just have to wait and see. :)
January 8, 2013 2:25 pm I literally was on my way to remove you guys from my Reader feed and ask that your remove my membership before this. I am just so tired of reading the hate, and I'm sorry to go on the attack but the story published this morning seemed less like legitimate journalism and more like an attack campaign which frankly some people should just be ashamed of.
January 8, 2013 2:24 pm Now this has restored my faith in your site. lol I think a lot of people are all taking this issue way too seriously. Love your response on this announcement. lol
January 8, 2013 2:20 pm Glad to see you appreciate the level of direction and control Marvel has over their titles. It has been the biggest issue of contention for me with the New 52. To me it makes absolutely no sense to reboot something if you didn't have a plan you could stick to and believe in. Besides 2-3 titles over there (which I even dropped those because I'm not giving DC my money anymore) that entire line has become a place for creator contention, poorly executed storylines, and unforgiveable continuity mishaps which...they correct in the TPBs? A little off subject I know but I got tired of beating a dead horse with all the Spidey fanboys. Their going to be pissed, and frankly...it is time to ignore it and move on.
January 8, 2013 2:11 pm "It is a reactive world...try to be active." Good words Kevin Smith.
    January 8, 2013 2:03 pm :) http://www.myfoxla.com/story/20427027/tshaka-armstrong-talks-spider-man-700-with-kevin-smith#.UNtugFk_JB4.bitly
January 8, 2013 1:50 pm ...and as I'm sure people would you completely miss the point. It isn't change because of change. It is change because themes like The Sinister Six, Peter's love life, etc get old hat and boring. Writing is all about character exploration. I'll leave it at that and simply say give Superior 1 a chance before you throw the baby out with the bath water. :)
January 8, 2013 1:44 pm Exactly...I think to great literature or even popular tv in your argument here. We watch Game of Thrones or have read the books chances are you HATE Joffrey. And that is what makes it so great. If you don't get an emotional rise out of what you are reading or watching I suggest people explore what they ingest. I would add the ending to Steinbeck's Of Mice or Men. That ending was the hardest thing for me to deal with for years but it was powerful. As is the surprise twists from authors like Flannery O'Connor. Give it a chance folks. Stop hating before you have all the information. It makes you look ignorant frankly. I'll state again...I had to swallow my pride with Avengers Arena. While I won't read the book because of personal feelings I can't say the first issue was poorly made which made me hate it all the more. lol But that is affective. And there is a group of readers...maybe new readers which we ALL want...that this works for. Okay...I really have to log off or I'll soon be arguing with everyone. This is feeling like back in the day when Busiek kept changing the Avengers rosters all over again. haha
