I want to love this book… And I get that feeling from a lot of fans. This should be DC’s…

Let me start off by saying that I am not a Judd Winick fan. I usually use his name as…

August 16, 2012 3:11 am Oh, and I do not remember a "last page shock." Did you?
August 16, 2012 3:10 am Liked it.. But not sure I loved it. The flashback seems somewhat out of place in the context of the greater story- I know it serves to remind Matt of his trials with Foggy in the past, but it just didn't... work... for me- and it suffers for it, in my opinion. I love the story ITSELF, this would have been an amazing one shot or fill in, but it still stutters in the course of the overreaching story arc for me.
August 11, 2012 6:12 am It felt like this was an attempt to answer the "unspoken" questions readers would have: -- Why don't they use the Infinity Gems? -- Why isn't Xavier playing a bigger role in this? -- Has anyone pointed out that the Avengers have been the aggressors at EVERY turn? -- Where does the Fantastic Four (besides Ben) fit into this? I don't know if anything gets ANSWERED, but at least it's addressed in some fashion. And, yet again, it's pointed out that the X-Men didn't do anything wrong- from the start- and they're still attacked for it... And when presented with that fact, members of the Avengers seem to reply with an "... yea... but... but..."
August 11, 2012 2:01 am There is no break between pages 21 and 22. That is NOT a back up- its a continuation of the story. It has no discernible difference in character, setting, time or tone. The main character looks to see a boat travelling down the sewer canal... and then Batman shows up to stop the boat and save our heroine. That's just a straight continuation- but featuring JARRINGLY dissimilar art. Took me right out of a book I was absolutely loving and rendering a pretty big disappointment.
August 8, 2012 8:50 pm "... gives up..." is too strong, but a by product of the disappointment I felt when I got to page 21. I'm not implying she simply threw her pencils in the air and said " **** this!" But that on both ends, something in terms of scheduling and/or time management could have been tweaked in order to make this the fantastic issue it could have been.
August 8, 2012 8:47 pm Batman #12 is awesome. One of the better books I've read in a long time. Well, it WAS, right up to the point where Becky Cloonan gives up and lets someone else do the final 6 pages. It's a one and done. And it could have easily been planned months ago, with more than enough time to let her finish. Instead, what potentially could be a great single issue is a gigantic disappointment.
April 20, 2012 11:14 pm I am not forgetting that this book in intended for a new audience at all. With that mandate, don't we think it should still be GOOD? I would ask you to pick up the first few trades of Morrison's run and see if that does not achieve that feeling as well. As far as being an "old, jaded comic book fan" and unable to enjoy this book, I think DC can make a book that we can BOTH enjoy; and SHOULD attempt to do that with what should be their flagship title. If they gain you as a new reader and lose me as an "old" reader, then what is the net gain to DC? As far as Billy goes, I fully concede that this is a more "realistic" approach to a child in the system. But he is (hopefully) about to be a ten year old mortal with the power of a full range of GODS. Where does realism play into this? I still contend that this Billy is a editorially mandated focus group approved "edgy" character and I don't care for it. But, a number of you do and that is a good thing. But, again, is DC courting the new at the EXPENSE of it's existing fan base? I see more and more DC fans at my shop shedding titles; and the "new" readers already left before December...
April 20, 2012 11:07 pm "Underwhelmed" is a good way to describe it... I think Johns is "coasting" now on these "big" titles. I want to see him go back to taking "second tier" heroes and bringing them to the forefront with fresh ideas and a real sense of adventure and fun...
April 19, 2012 1:59 am Loved this issue... again. This has been the surprise of the "New 52." A damn good comic month after month. And I love March, but am happy to see a competent fill in as well.
April 19, 2012 1:57 am The Morrison JLA could not have existed within the 5 year time frame, I don't think. Saying that the League has never had any new members seals it, as Morrison had something like 16 or 17 Leaguers on there at one time!
