June 21, 2012 10:32 am We all have our pet peeves when it comes to realism. Being former Infantry I am really bugged by the innacurate unfiorms when they are showing soldiers. Its in every medium but just the random placement of patches types of uniforms annoy. Especially in the google age. Also the way characters fire their weapons, one handed, under the arm. Also being from TX, I remember the last issues in Preacher that took place in San Antonio. One of the largest cities in the country looked like a one light town in the middle of no where. On the whole though it seems like comic book creators take a lot more time to get things right than in other media
June 19, 2012 1:32 pm I got into comics in the late 80's from reading ratty old back issues from an indoor flea market. They were mid 70's to early 80's Marvels and som DC's. They were all random issues and not a lot of variety. Fell in love with some characters just cause of the adds. I thought 3-D Man,The Human Fly and Son Of Satan were huge deals just from one or two images. I remember a subscription ad that made me go nuts for Captain Marvel. Loved his costume had no idea who he was or what he could do. Made up a whole backstory for him. Kind of was a let down when I found out he was a kree soldier. Fell i love with the Falcon over an old Mego ad. The best part of getting one or two issues of a title was being left to wonder what was going to happen next without ever knwoing. Now with over 60 long boxes, wikipedia, and all the old handbooks, I know a lot more, but have a lot less wonder. I kind of miss it.
June 1, 2012 5:41 pm I know this may seem a little offensive but I think one of the reasons minority characters don't really always work is that the writers are sensitive to not protraying ethnic stereotypes that they make every character act like a stereotypical wasp. People from different backgrounds and cultures talk, dress, and behave differently and have different life experiences. Thats one of the things that annoys me about Miguel Morales. I would have loved to see a Spiderman become a hero while comming from a more (lacfk of a better term) ghetto background. The vast majoriy of mixed race children don't come from a stable middle class nuclear family and attend a gifted prep school. I guess they are trying to be PC or set a good example, but its kind of insulting to expect a kid from the projects to identify with a character based soley on his skin color when he doesn't share any life experiences. Morales is not the black or mexican Spiderman. he's pretty much just Peter Parker with a tan. I guess its better than going in the entirely other direction and having him swing around with his costume sagging, but its still a little insulting
March 13, 2012 1:32 pm God if they are bringing back Miracleman as Captain Marvel it will be the greatest FU in comics history
