May 27, 2014 4:13 am It was a good week, I'd have to go with East of West #12, I've been starting to fall off this but this was a great issue. Had a lot of fun with the JL books and doomed is still pretty good. Thor was also a ton of fun. I also read Rachel Rising in trades. I sort of feel like Terry Moore should go Image, with their promotion this book would sell a lot more, but I don't see it happening.
May 11, 2014 11:51 pm Batman, All New Xmen, Chew, The Bunker, Mind Mgmt. Agree that both Image and Marvel are rough. Glad you guys talked about Swamp Thing, great book since Soule took over. I think it takes pick of the week for me, as I'm still trade waiting the wake.
May 4, 2014 6:29 pm After reading Southern Bastards I was almost positive it would be the pick. I'd have to go with it as well, although Deadly Class 4 was a close runner up for me. I'm loving that book for the reasons you guys pointed out. Loving Black Science as well but not quite as much. Spider-man 2099 is back in modern day, they brought him in for 3 issues around 19 and he got stuck there. He is getting his own book soon with Peter David writing. Great week for comics.
April 27, 2014 11:37 pm Zero was probably my pick of the week. Agree that Batman Eternal is okay. Flash art was pretty rough, honestly looking at the year that DC and Marvel have planned out I am starting to lose faith in DC. Once in awhile you get a story that works but the universe isn't coming together and everything is far too grim, with earth 2 being even more grim. It makes me really want 5 years later DC books, but not the ones coming in October with the fancy covers. I want to like Sovereign but it feels hard to follow for a monthly comic, it jumps around a lot with no fleshed out characters to latch onto, going to give it awhile longer. Anyone else reading The Fuse? Good character work so far.
April 21, 2014 12:50 am Think I am in the can't read Stray Bullets camp. Ms Marvel was wonderful, my potw.
April 6, 2014 11:23 pm Layman has stated 60 issues, he has also said for every character he likes in Walking Dead that Kirkman kills he will unkill someone in Chew. I think Sex will go further than 20, at least I hope it will, there is a lot of story potential setup. Black Science was my potw, Starlight was great but I think I liked issue one a bit more, still loving it and eager for more.
March 30, 2014 11:20 pm I have gotta catch up on The Private Eye. Deadly Class takes my pick this week. Agree fully on Ghost Rider, art was great, not quite enough happened, but I will be back for more. Anyone else read Red Lanterns?, still digging that since Soule took over.
March 25, 2014 11:18 am Yea it was excellent, just sad this run is ending.
March 25, 2014 8:38 am Batman number 29 was the best selling comic this month, it was number 29. The artist and writer have been on fire telling the best story possible. It can be done at any number, it outsold all marvel 1's. BPRD did not have numbers it went to 1 a lot with miniseries, I bought it but it could get confusing to organize over time, and for people trying to go backwards. I bought it then and now it says 116 on it and I still buy it. No one cared when a BPRD 1 came out before the numbering, they did it too often to get new people, marvel is doing this. The new number 1 is a tool, if you use a tool too much it becomes dull and ineffective. I understand the points you guys are making as a reader. I don't care either, as I said it wasn't doing it for me anymore for the most part. I jumped on many of the new 1's and Green Arrow at 19. If you are going to honestly use new a number 1 I think it should be something new and different. I guess I just didn't want to reward them for slapping a number 1 on something that wasn't new. Now when they relaunch it again in 12 months and the book actually is radically different, even less new readers may jump onto something special, and that is doing the comics community a disservice.
March 24, 2014 5:56 pm I haven't liked the book as much since 26. The disdain is I think these constant relaunches are bad for the industry. Fantastic four number 1 by Matt Fraction sold 114k a Fantastic Four number 1 by James Robinson sold 65k a little over a year later, so you have a probably better quality book selling much more poorly, this seems like a poor trend. Marvel is abusing the number 1. In doing so they gave me a jumping off point.
